I didn't think it was bad, but wasn't anything groundbreaking. I'll also be the guy that says that overall the book was better.

Simple plot. Likeable characters. Nostalgia overload. Solid movie.

I enjoyed the book, it wasn't great but it was a nice, quick read. The movie was awful.

BTTT.Just finished reading the book yesterday morning. Last member of the family who hadn't read it yet! Anyways, so read the book and immediately watched the movie and was super disappointed. I get that translating "Dude plays arcade game for 3+ hours" is difficult to make exciting in a movie, but they completely upended the entire story. There was never a race, the battles between the gunters and the sixers were way better in the books, Og had almost no part in the movie, Wade met Art3mis so much earlier, everybody was already in Columbus, etc. etc. The movie had some good moments but overall, a poor imitation of the book. Oh well, just thought I'd bitch a few months late.

Movie was alright. Nothing special. It was worth my redbox rental but I wouldn't watch it again.I've read some excerpts out of the book people have posted and they look embarrassingly cringy with the eye rolling nostalgia references that go on for paragraphs.I get that people are cherry picking the worst bits but it was still hilarious. I actually think a movie is better suited for that type of nostalgia trip filler than a book simply because it's all already in the background while the story plays out around it instead of spending time actively reading about the nostalgia in the background.
