12/10/2009 9:06:51 PM
lol, he had a chance, Download Squad posted about it on November 30. He's had 10 days!

I just hope they don't go the OWA (Outlook Web Acces) route and only support full features in IE. That is one thing that pisses me off the most about OWA. I have to launch a VM, open IE, and then create all my filters/rules for my exchange account at work so that its processed on the server and not on my device. You can still use OWA in other browsers but with very limited functionality.
12/10/2009 9:11:24 PM
Considering what's possible these days with Ajax, and the fact that Microsoft made an honest effort to make IE8 the most standards-compliant thing they've ever shipped, I'd hope that they'd want their web-based apps to reach the broadest possible segment of the market as possible. Anything less and they've wasted their time, because there are an awful lot of Firefox, Safari and Opera users that aren't going to go back to IE just to run web apps.
12/10/2009 9:17:08 PM
Well its not that anything in OWA isn't possible in other browsers. In fact its possible in other browsers with less work. Its just that for whatever reason they would rather you use their own browser.

i've been using the beta for a while now and i LOVE it. i never get excited about new software (besides games), especially microsoft stuff, but i'm impressed. they've rearranged some of the ribbon stuff, added the ribbon to publisher FINALLY, and changed the business contact manager to make it much more customizable. it looks nicer overall.oh and they finally made it so all day calendar events show up on that appointment/task thing on the right in outlook. i never understood why they would leave those out.[Edited on December 11, 2009 at 8:24 AM. I wonder if I'll be able to get this with microsoft's HUP...
12/20/2009 12:16:11 PM
Will this Beta expire eventually so I will need to buy 2010 or go back to 2007 or can you continue to use the beta version after 2010 is released?
12/20/2009 12:37:03 PM
believe it expires in october.
12/20/2009 12:51:09 PM
I have not used too many of the features yet, but Outlook setup for sending mail using the NC State outgoing server was much easier than 2007. For 2007 it took forever to figure out how to get it to work. I tried copying the 2007 settings to 2010 and it did not work. Then I set everything to auto in 2010, and it worked fine. Also, Outlook plays better with IMAP by default now. When I send an email, it puts it in the sent folder automatically on my IMAP. Also when I delete and email, it puts it in my IMAP trash folder. This much better than the way 2007 handled IMAP stuff.

^^mine expired a few days ago and i never could get it to register. i dl'd it legit too. i really liked it, ah well.
12/23/2009 10:02:10 AM
You should've gotten a serial number when you registered. All I did was went into file, help, and change product key.and lol, microsoft pwnt
12/23/2009 10:45:22 AM

12/23/2009 11:39:12 AM
M$ PWNT, STAY HOME!

I find it annoying that there is no new mail notification when I get new mail from my NCSU account.
12/30/2009 11:35:23 PM
So is OfficeLive the answer to Google Gears apps?
12/31/2009 8:27:31 AM
it would appear so
12/31/2009 2:23:52 PM
So I'm debating using the beta until it expires and/or I get the real release. Anybody had any problems with it so far?
1/8/2010 12:51:42 PM
Office 2010 isnt playing well with our AD. I cant open files on a mapped drive. I have to copy them local to open them. Even with that, I like it a lot. Outlook is much better, especially with the search functionality greatly improved.
1/8/2010 1:02:40 PM
I was unable to open a simple docx today from my manager. I dont recall having these problems on the 32 bit version. The 64 bit version seems to have some major issues.
1/8/2010 3:20:08 PM
If you want IMAP notification like previous Outlook versions, you can create a rule to do it. Still no envelope in the taskbar though. http://www.addictivetips.com/microsoft-office/outlook-2010-imap-notification-alert/

Outlook 2010...why do you keep opening a M$ Word window when I preview emails???? The fact that I can't close them also is a deal breaker!!!
3/15/2010 10:24:05 PM
oh look more needless re-arranging

i have an issue with selecting multiple items (text boxes or images) and moving them in Word and Publisher. i've already sent a frown but i'll describe/complain about it here too. in the old version, i could select multiple things and move them all at once with the up/down/right/left keys. now when i do that they move together for the first push of the key, but then only the first one i selected keeps moving. i can still drag them all together w/ the mouse though.the reason the mouse thing doesn't work as a replacement is b/c i can adjust the placement in teeny tiny increments with the keys.oh, also when i copy/paste images from one document to another, it doesn't put them in the same place. the old version used to paste them in the exact same location as the originals. not anymore.oh and publisher is slow as shit for some reason. regardless of the file and what's in it.other than these things, i'm still happy. especially with outlook.
3/17/2010 1:49:56 PM
I didn't realize we even still made Publisher

owa got renamed to "outlook web app" in exchange 2010it's actually pretty nice... and yes, they got rid of the stupid IE-only rich experience... it works fine in firefox and safari.i'll go ahead and say that i don't particularly *mind* using it now, which says a lot.^and yeah, lawl, i downloaded it a few days ago although so far, we only get 1 key each, it says that we'll get more on the 30th.]
4/25/2010 11:35:51 AM
a lot of VBA i've written in excel doesn't work in 2010. most of it isn't hard to fix or anything but yeah, slightly annoying to have to
4/25/2010 11:57:55 AM
anyone know of any student deals on this? I got the email for preordering, but that wasn't for students ($500!).[Edited on April 29, 2010 at 8:14 AM. Reason : .]

Installing now.

We ran out of licenses at work last week so had to buy a new copy of Office. I told them what to buy and didn't think anything about it until I happened to see it on Amazon and noticed that any copy of 2007 activated for the next few months gets a free upgrade. I went ahead and got another copy of 07 (cheaper than 10) and started testing it on my machine. I like the look better but there's some annoyances. Printing being one of them. I have the Quick Print on the toolbar so it would be nice if it was actually a QUICK PRINT. If I want to choose options then I wouldn't have used Quick Print dammit!

Thank youDoes anyone know how to put specific fill colors onto the ribbon bar in excel 2010? I do a lot of background colors of red yellow and green (as I'm sure most ppl do) itd be nice to setup the ribbon to have one button for each color and then a fourth button which is the same as the existing "choose you own fill color".
4/9/2011 9:15:14 PM
You know excel has conditional formatting in 2010 that will color code for you?
4/9/2011 10:27:53 PM
Noen. Of course I know about conditional formatting. That shit was in 2000 which I've been using for 10 years. Obviously I don't want to use conditional formatting in this instance and many others in my routine. Any advice for the question I asked?

Question about Excel 2010 64 bit. In word 2007 I would always copy/paste screen shots into excel and it would maintain a decent file size but in Excel 2010 when I copy screen shots into excel it jumps the file size up to 5-6 MBs per screen shot. For example I just grabbed 3 screen shots and put them each into a tab and the file size jumped to 18MBs compared to Excel 2007 where it's 150-200KBs. The captured screen shots are small and no where near 5-6MBs each. It's almost like Excel is un-compressing/converting the files before inserting them into the workbook. Is this a bug? Intentional? I can't find any documentation about it. My current fix is to manually save the screen shot on the desktop then manually add the image into excel. This maintains the original file size.[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 12:12 PM. Reason : s]

paste as bitmap, and in options set the dpi for images to 72dpi

Has anyone else had issues after signing up for Office 365? I signed up for the trial last week to see if it was any more useful than Office Live and ever since, I've had serious issues in Excel & Word. I can't find the shit that I had to install with it to uninstall but it's driving me insane. This is Office 2010 on Win 7 Pro 64bit. Cursor in Word flashes CONSTANTLY between the cursor & "thinking" circle. In Excel, the grid lines will flash or if I have any images they'll flash. I can usually get through a few cells before it throws an error at me that says not enough resources to display correctly. It's like I'm running on 1gb of RAM. Machine is a couple years old but I have no issues running 2 CAD programs, Outlook, Chrome w/ 10+ tabs, iTunes, & a few other programs simultaneously. Running JUST Word or JUST Excel is like I'm bringing it to it's knees. It's an AMD 2.61 dual w/ 4gb RAM. No other problems in any other programs and Word/Excel ran like a champ before O365.
7/7/2011 2:13:57 PM
yeeaahhhh I will be moving back to Office 2007 until I can figure out a work around. I just threw a print screen into excel 2010 and it bumped the file size up to 18 megs whereas in Office 2007 it maintains the image size at under a meg. Changing the PPI settings in options makes no difference.[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 2:42 PM. Reason : woops]
