^ This is just an anti-establishment year. Sometimes you lose in the political landslide.
2/1/2016 10:16:30 PM
trump is still leading every other state by a lot.
2/1/2016 10:29:56 PM
Mike Huckabee just announced he is suspending his presidential campaign. Man ran a great populist campaign in 2008 and he just went desperate and raving this time around.Clinton now up on Sanders 49.9% to 49.4% per CNN. I'd laugh if they had an exact tie.
2/1/2016 10:36:49 PM
Looking like it's gonna be Cruz in Iowa.
2/1/2016 10:37:53 PM
it was already called.
2/1/2016 10:38:53 PM
^^^^ hopefully this changes things.
2/1/2016 11:00:59 PM
Why would a bunch of people in Iowa voting for Cruz change things against Trump? I may be able to understand what you're saying if it was anyone else but Cruz was expected to do well in Iowa.
2/1/2016 11:08:39 PM
because that is what has happened in every presidential primary race in this country since I've been paying attention, which is...1992
2/1/2016 11:09:47 PM
I don't know if you've heard, but this isn't like any other race for a lot of reasons.
2/1/2016 11:11:27 PM
iowa rarily picks the winner for the eventual gop winner ...same this time around it appears.[Edited on February 1, 2016 at 11:13 PM. Reason : h]

But the results do affect candidates going forward. Kerry and Edwards in '04 for example were taken from the midfield to be the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination, it killed the campaigns of Dean and Gephardt. In '08, Edwards put everything in to win Iowa, he didn't, Obama did, it killed Edwards as far as being a frontrunner and was a large dent to Hillary's expected crowning.

Delegate allocation:Cruz 6Trump 5Rubio 5Carson 1
2/1/2016 11:30:15 PM
The rest of the Republican field with the exception of Huckabee looks to be staying in, although Ben Carson has headed home to Florida to "get fresh clothes", so he may withdraw in the coming week. Santorum is heading to South Carolina, everyone else looks to be going to New Hampshire.
2/2/2016 12:08:21 AM
Rubio even with trump... Restores some hope in humanity for me.
2/2/2016 12:26:20 AM
There's no doubt in my mind that Rubio will be the candidate. He is by far the most electable and least crazy one in the bunch. If it's not him, then republicans will just be shooting themselves in the foot once again.
2/2/2016 2:43:23 AM
Rubio will not be the candidate. Did you see how parched he was near the end of his 3rd place victory speech that went on way too long for a 3rd place speech? The electorate won't vote for a guy who can't make it through a one on one 90 min debate without becoming dangerously dehydrated. At least when there are 10 candidates on stage he gets a break to imbibe some of that sweet, sweet water.

Between Rubio, Cruz, and Trump, Rubio is my pick.Final delegate estimate counts the media seems to have agreed on:Cruz 8Trump 7Rubio 7Carson 3Paul 1Bush 1[Edited on February 2, 2016 at 9:03 AM. Reason : .]
2/2/2016 9:01:29 AM
hooray the guy who took the country to the brink of default and made millions short-term unemployed beat the guy who raped his wife!
2/2/2016 9:28:42 AM
So Iowa pretty much went as expected, although I am glad Rubio was much closer to Trump than I thought he would be, which should give him some momentum. Cruz was always going to win Iowa, that is just who they vote for, I think SC will be an interesting one to watch.
2/2/2016 9:43:54 AM
I like Rubio a little more than Cruz now. I don't want to see another POTUS of an IVY league alumnus.
2/2/2016 9:52:09 AM
Cruz is a terrifying candidate, but not because he went to a good school
2/2/2016 10:10:08 AM
Iowa was huge for Rubio, I wouldn't be too surprised if his momentum keeps up or improves that you will see the establishment push some of the lower tiered candidates out of the race and they migrate to him. I also wonder what will happen to Trump if he comes in second or worse over the course of the next few states. Either way, at least this hasn't been boring.
2/2/2016 10:20:06 AM
^^ Absolutely right. He has a rich dad who sent him to Princeton and Harvard.
2/2/2016 10:28:01 AM
2/2/2016 10:52:10 AM
Cruz winning in Iowa seems pretty predictable. He's able to really play up the religious side of things there, which Iowa bumpkins like.Trump is going to dominate hard in New Hampshire, I don't see any avoiding that. A cursory glance at other states would imply a Trump sweep, although a lot can change quickly at this point.
2/2/2016 10:53:15 AM
To be honest, his FINAL win is pretty predictable too. message_topic.aspx?topic=639335
2/2/2016 11:01:18 AM
Cruz is the absolutely worst thing that could happen to this country from a political stand point.
2/2/2016 11:20:04 AM
Could you elaborate a little bit?
2/2/2016 11:29:03 AM
2/2/2016 11:30:56 AM
I think Sen. Cruz being elected president would be the best thing to happen to TSB since chemtrails. So much hysteria after a single caucus win. Is it too soon to start speculating about his potential VP picks?
2/2/2016 11:31:08 AM
2/2/2016 11:38:35 AM
^^ Parlin or Carly Fiorina
2/2/2016 11:39:55 AM
LOOK AT ALL THIS HYSTERIA!!!11
2/2/2016 11:40:08 AM
Palin has officially endorsed Trump, it's safe to say she will not be Sen. Cruz's VP selection.
2/2/2016 11:48:26 AM
Carly Fiorina or Ben Carson then.[Edited on February 2, 2016 at 11:56 AM. Reason : ;]
2/2/2016 11:55:39 AM
Carson's star is fading, he'll be out of the race after NH if not before. I'm starting to see a lot of talk on conservative media for Joel Osteen to be the VP pick - another political outsider.
2/2/2016 12:11:17 PM
You must be kidding me.Although I know it's reasonable since Cruz's dad is a pastor.I would still bet Carly Fiorina. She says she can beat Hilary.
2/2/2016 12:15:19 PM
Joel Osteen, seriously? I assume you're joking
2/2/2016 12:16:13 PM
That has to be a joke, I would vote for Hillary before I let a scam artist like that be the VP.
2/2/2016 12:29:17 PM
lol you people read shoot's posts
2/2/2016 12:31:30 PM
Goldie said that.
2/2/2016 12:32:37 PM
Osteen being the VP is about as legitimate as most of the other commentary provided in these "Republican" threads.
2/2/2016 12:39:52 PM
I'm afraid it's OVER already. Trump was already congratulating Cruz.
2/2/2016 12:41:28 PM

The amount of independents/moderates that would vote for Cruz is almost non-existent. That will be his issue. The moderates may just get frustrated about choosing between Bernie and Cruz and stay home though.
2/2/2016 12:57:06 PM
I think ^ that's yet to be seen. He received a large number of votes last night - they weren't all from rabid right-wing Christians, although per Ballotpedia 2/3 or so were from evangelicals.https://ballotpedia.org/Cruz_wins_Iowa_the_old-fashioned_wayHe definitely will have to show he can succeed in NH and NV for his campaign to begin gaining some national momentum. The next debate is Saturday so we'll see how he fares in the center podium taking shots from Trump and Rubio.

I think this election could echo the types of political divides that built into the civil war.Except instead of issues like states rights, slavery, agrarian v industrial economies today's issues are:-Gay Marriage-Abortion!- Jesus in the classroom-Big Oil v. Climate Change-Healthcare for allPersonally I vote for disenfranchising the so-called heartland and deep south because their views are wrong![Edited on February 2, 2016 at 7:46 PM. Reason : a]
