I figured an old hag wouldn't get many email, or listen to anything beyond the 30 songs she's been listening to since the 70's But I bought the 4gb to see if I liked it and still haven't filled it up yet.. I've got it mostly filled with pictures tho. If I put a bunch of songs on it I'd def need the 8

ok so i finally gave in on this iphone deal after my 8125 started acting funny. turns out the fuckin apple is lightyears ahead of the wm piece in quality, design, and ease of use. by far the best-working piece of electronics i have ever purchased. although i still dont like the fact that steve jobs is trying hard to stick it up mine as far as accessory/upgrade availability[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 10:15 PM. Reason : and itunes still blow]
10/2/2007 10:11:58 PM
yea some aftermarket management software (like anapod explorer for the regular ipod) would really be nice.. hell at this rate he'll start sending out updates thru the wireless carriers to fuck phones using that or something tho [Edited on October 2, 2007 at 10:32 PM. Reason : asdf]
10/2/2007 10:31:53 PM
i started playing with widgets today, they have to run through safari i guessin order not to void the warranty and shit, but at least there is some sort of an aftermarket apps and there seems to be a ton of them
10/4/2007 12:23:58 AM
although I was a huge hater at first...I gotta give this thing some credit. I bought one today after trying to surf wap yesterday for twenty minutes and got nothing accomplished.I don't even feel much need for a laptop now (90% of my use is net based). I just need to confirm that this thing can only open a PDF file. I heard it could do word and excel.
10/9/2007 12:39:20 AM
mine opens pdf files just fine.

10/9/2007 9:04:39 AM
I WANT A FREAKIN ''MARK ALL MAIL READ'' BUTTON.When I have like 50 emails a day all coming to my phone, half of which are pretty large and no wi-fi available it drives me crazy having to go thru each one of them
10/9/2007 2:55:55 PM
yeah that is annoying as hell(is there even a way to mark single messages as read....without waiting on them to load??)]
10/9/2007 3:16:20 PM
Nope. Even when you open a message and it hasn't been technically marked as read, the only option is to "mark as unread". Quite annoying.
10/9/2007 3:36:23 PM
yeah ive had some large messages lately...have to tap on the message to open it, set the phone down for a few minutes then come back to it and hope its been opened/marked as read]
10/9/2007 3:50:06 PM
half the time mine will come up something about the message has no content..but if I go back to the list of messages it'll show the first few lines of the message.
10/9/2007 4:12:02 PM
does anyone reccomend a particular case? In scared as hell that I'm gonna drop this thing.looking for something thin in particular
10/11/2007 1:00:24 AM
dropping it really doesn't hurt it.. mine's been thrown against a wall from a females drunken rage..twice. first time didnt do anything, second time cracked the screen in one place but it STILL didn't scratch the screen anywhere else or do any other damage.
10/11/2007 8:58:38 AM
yeah - my last phone fell off a car once though
10/11/2007 10:18:25 AM
throwing against a wall is a hell of a lot more force than falling off a car. anyways, read some reviews..the small amount i read said some of the cases were wearing off paint and really not doing their jobs. that's about all i can tell you, though.
10/11/2007 10:31:15 AM
SoYou guys waiting on wm7?
10/12/2007 12:15:23 AM
so one of those tattooed nerds at the iStore told me the reason they didn't include 3G in the iPhone is because it would drain the battery and make it thick as hell. i still cynically contend apple wants to suck more $$$ out of me...though the idiots refunded me way too much $ on my original purchase so who knows.who's right?]
10/12/2007 1:20:16 AM
According to Ars Technica, the battery life and size argument was viable.
10/12/2007 1:36:33 AM
3G might use more power but seems like it'd have to use it a hell of a lot less time..Maybe they should set it up to use edge for small stuff and 3G for web browsing or large emails..something like that. I forgot how fast 3G was until I started using the cingular pcmcia card in my laptop again yesterday.. Damn, I want this speed on my iphone
10/12/2007 8:45:28 AM
had verizon agreed with apple's terms - there'd be a 3g version right now
10/12/2007 8:53:32 AM
Saw one on sale yesterday for $1,333 No joke. Don't know which model it was.

anyone find the auto-brightness feature a little flaky? eg when its pitch black keeping the screen at 100% brightness...
10/17/2007 1:29:52 PM
mine is slow as hell to adjust and doesn't seem to get dim enough in darkness or bright enough in a bright room.. so yeah, I agree.[Edited on October 17, 2007 at 1:50 PM. Reason : a]

It's awesome that Apple is releasing the iPhone/Touch SDK, we'll see some awesome apps for sure. I'm interested to see how Apple breaks jailbroken devices in the next update. On a side note, I don't know if we will see 3rd party apps from the enthusiast community. I bet Apple will require some sort of digital signature for apps before they will work on a non-modified device.
10/17/2007 6:53:30 PM
what, enthusiasts won't register for an id? or are you saying apple will restrict ids to partner companies?
10/17/2007 7:35:04 PM
I'm definitely thinking apps will have to go through Apple to gain a digital signature. Apps will probably also be pushed through iTunes to the user, considering that's the only way to sync the device.
10/17/2007 9:13:32 PM
bought an iPhone last night cus my 4G iPod died. yay me!
10/23/2007 1:53:46 PM
whats the latest version of the iphone software?have there been multiple updates since the release of the phone?is there a version tracker anywhere that shows each updates, and its features/bug fixes?
10/23/2007 2:03:46 PM
iphone+ imap gmail -> http://5thirtyone.com/archives/862
10/24/2007 11:20:54 AM
^^ i think the latest version is 1.1.1. that's the one that bricked a lot of phones and added new features like the Mobile iTunes Music Store, and the home-button double-click. maybe they've had a point release since the, but i don't know.
10/24/2007 11:40:25 AM
sweet. IMAP gmail works like a charm. Now if I could only sync my outlook calendar :/The setup we use here at work involves addins that screw with the sync. I can sync to outlook but not to the phone
10/24/2007 11:53:53 AM
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071024-gmail-delievers-a-knockout-punch-imap-changes-the-freemail-game.htmlso hows imap running over the iphone? seems like it would take even longer to open up larger email messages (mostly due to the lack of a way to mark messages as read).
10/24/2007 1:52:36 PM
IMAP is awesome...exactly what gmail needed on the iphone.^if you 'read' a message through gmails online interface then it marks it as read on your iphone and visversa. Also if you send an email from your iphone you don't get it as an incoming message again in your inbox. It just goes and moves to your sent folder like its supposed to. If you delete a message on the iphone its deleted on gmail. If you mark a message as unread its marked in both places etc....thats how imap works. Not sure what your question is exactly. Large messages open fine read/unread for me especially over weefee[Edited on October 24, 2007 at 2:31 PM. Reason : .]
10/24/2007 2:31:04 PM
^ the issue (discussed earlier in this thread), is youre trying to open large gmail messages over the cell network (non-wifi) that it can take forever for the message to finally open and remove the unread mark...and theres no "mark as read" functionality. and it sounds like imap is slower than pop, so will it take even longer to open up large messages over imap? bascially how big of a performance hit do you take by switching to imap.
10/24/2007 3:46:06 PM
that sounds like a non-issue, really. from the Ars article, the IMAP vs. POP performance issue depends on how fast the server is. We can assume that 1) Google has pumped up their Gmail servers to make sure the additional overhead is more than covered, and 2) the performance hit on the server is nothing compared to the download speed, even on a fast network, much less on the EDGE network. i.e. the slow speed on EDGE will greatly override any inherent speed differences in IMAP vs POP

10/24/2007 4:28:00 PM
I had an IMAP and pop account before swithing gmail IMAP.I couldn't tell a difference on edge or wifi between the two.Its definately a win win situation imo
10/24/2007 8:42:53 PM
imap ftw

stores limit number of purchases and method of payment all the time. not sure why it would be any different here. people may not like it, but i doubt it's illegal
