i didn't like season 2 as much as season 1 on my first watch, but you have to have it for development of guys like Joe, Cheese, The Greek, Stavros, Beadie, etc

I hated season 2 for awhile, but after going back and watching it a couple of time it is actually really good. the story is one of the better story lines. also they had white mike, a very underrated character.

I just finished Season 3 a few days ago. I really enjoyed Seasons 1 and 2 (I don't care what anyone says, Season 2 is GREAT. It's not quite as violent or dramatic as the other seasons but has some of the best characters and one of the more intriguing storylines) but Season 3 was amazing. After the ending I'm not really sure what to expect in Season 4 although I keep hearing S4 is where the show transcends amazing.

i was cleaning stuff up after christmas and pulled a box down that had my Wire box set inside of it. i put in season 1 disc 1 just to watch for a few minutes. Finished season 1 about 36 hours later.

will probably watch season 2 and on at some point soon. gets better every time through.

I'm about 1.5 seasons into The Shield and it's fucking awesome.

I'm not saying it's a better show but I'm surprised it doesn't have a better rep in "Best TV Show" discussions. Is it just because it ran at the same time and got overshadowed by The Wire?

^ I think the broader focus and heavier serialization on The Wire makes it more highly regarded (at least amongst TV critics and high-minded TV viewers). The Shield has a number of standalone episodes that, while good, aren't all that different from your standard issue crime procedural. I tend to think the dialogue on The Wire is significantly better as well. The Shield definitely stuck the landing with it's final season though, while the final season of The Wire has issues.
