Lots of groundwork being laid today to ignore court orders

The only next step is to send police to physically stop them

Media finally waking up ?

this is weird. I thought Trump and the GOP had significant concerns about election security. What could be the motivation behind this move?

^^If only they had published their plans for 2025 ahead of time, maybe we could have been more ready for it.

more firings today across fema and doe. New order that doge will approve all new government hires

They seemed to have learned from orban to fire people more gradually over a few weeks than all at once. Makes the fascist purge look less fascist

"DOJ leadership has put all Public Integrity Section lawyers into a room with 1 hour to decide who will dismiss Adams indictment or else all will be fired. Sending them strength to stand by their oath, which is to support the Constitution, not the president’s political agenda. ????"

So far at least 8 top doj prosecutors have resigned citing it’s an illegal request

Quote :
"
BY EMAIL
Re: United States v. Eric Adams, 24 Cr. 556 (DEH)
Mr. Bove,
I have received correspondence indicating that I refused your order to move to dismiss the indictment against Eric Adams without prejudice, subject to certain conditions, including the express possibility of reinstatement of the indictment. That is not exactly correct. The U.S.
Attorney, Danielle R. Sassoon, never asked me to file such a motion, and I therefore never had an opportunity to refuse. But I am entirely in agreement with her decision not to do so, for the reasons stated in her February 12, 2025 letter to the Attorney General.
In short, the first justification for the motion-that Damian Williams's role in the case somehow tainted a valid indictment supported by ample evidence, and pursued under four different U.S. attorneysis so weak as to be transparently pretextual. The second justification is worse.
No system of ordered liberty can allow the Government to use the carrot of dismissing charges, or the stick of threatening to bring them again, to induce an elected official to support its policy objectives.
There is a tradition in public service of resigning in a last-ditch effort to head off a serious mistake. Some will view the mistake you are committing here in the light of their generally negative views of the new Administration. I do not share those views. I can even understand how a Chief Executive whose background is in business and politics might see the contemplated dismissal-with-leverage as a good, if distasteful, deal. But any assistant U.S. attorney would know that our laws and traditions do not allow using the prosecutorial power to influence other citizens, much less elected officials, in this way. If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.
Please consider this my resignation. It has been an honor to serve as a prosecutor in the
Southern District of New York.
Yours truly,
Hagan Scotten
Assistant United States Attorney
Southern District of New York

It looks like Kathy hochul is the weak link now. Always seems like it’s democrats that are enabling trump, when it gets down to brass tacks.

She has every right and justification to remove Adams, it would essentially end the doj crisis because the quid pro quo with trump would be void.

It's not exactly a light decision. I'm not defending her in general, but politics have consequences outside of what just seems like the right thing to do in an online forum. In many ways, local politics is a lot more f'd up than national politics, I guess cause there's a lot more dumb people you're beholden to

Of course, if she or whoever was more competent, she would have Adams under her control otherwise, and he would've resigned himself by now

Quote :
"Hochul has quietly made the municipal government functional again; she effectively ordered Adams to hire Jessica Tisch as police commissioner and elevate Maria Torres-Springer, a capable bureaucrat, to first deputy mayor. Hochul is also believed to have ordered the purging of several high-level Adams officials who were tainted by various corruption probes. For several months, that seemed sufficient. Hochul, a white woman from Buffalo, did not want to be seen as the politician who forced Adams, a Black man from Brooklyn, out of City Hall — not when she had to sweat the support of Black voters in the five boroughs in a 2026 statewide primary. Black civil rights and clergy leaders were certainly uncomfortable with the duly elected Adams, yet to be convicted of any corruption charges, being marched from Gracie Mansion."

Wait and see

Right is right. If you do the right thing and lose a future election as a result, so what. You still did the right thing. Courage versus cowardice. Unless it leads to an even worse and known outcome. Then it gets a little fuzzy.

It's hard deciding which thread to put these slew of non-stop actions

This thread was for rednecks rioting in the Capitol. There are plenty of other threads for the democratically elected executive branch dismantling the administrative state (and maybe also the USGOV).

And if it's not, Dems should be prepared to put forward an appealing vision for the public in 2028 and come with a Plan to Build Back Better, so to speak.

But they'll probably waste the next 3 years bitching and complaining.

I'm very cynical that even a legitimately good alternative plan could break through all the disinformation and brain rot. People are too entrenched. I have no confidence in my fellow man.

We’ve crossed the Rubicon

Things are never going back to how they were and might never get as good as the National mood was in the late 90s. There’s a decent chance America continues to dwindle for the rest of our lives as other nations sever ties with us in favor of China or Russia or Europe, no matter who we elect or how great they are.

Quote :
"
We're pretty screwed. A couple of things are a little worse than I anticipated.
One is that while we knew the Republicans would not put up many obstacles, they have been even weaker than I thought. That the Congress is basically shutting itself down in the wake of the executive branch usurping its power is also really stunning. The Republican abdication has been worse than I expected, and I thought it would be bad.
The second thing I didn't anticipate was the role of Musk. I don't think anybody quite could have anticipated it. That article drew on 20 years of research on competitive authoritarian regimes elsewhere in the world. The kinds of stuff we predicted, a lot of which has come to pass, are strategies that have been carried out in literally dozens of other cases. But Musk is pretty new. This is something that I don't really have a model to understand.

There's a sort of technological frontier element to this that's a little frightening. We don't know what he's going to do with data. And frankly, at least in democracies, I've never seen a concentration of political, economic, and media power as vast as this.

This is why you avoid Constituonal crisis. It’s degenerate and can’t be controlled

start thinking long term. millennials will inherit this nation sometime between now and then, so let's start planning ahead instead of being slaves to the daily headlines. the world has changed a lot since the 90's. and it's going to change far, far more in the decades ahead. get used to it and act accordingly.

The US is degrading, yes, but Europe is the only viable alternative for partnership with a free society if that's still something anyone cares about. So far, we're not as bad as China and Russia, but I'm sure we can get there!
