Anybody have a recommendation for sushi in Raleigh? Sushi Blues is okay, but we're trying to find somewhere nicer for a special occasion. Has anybody been to Sono? Any other recommendations?

I hear Waraji is the place to go

Sushi Tsune. Mr. Tsune knows his trade.

Gotta be in raleigh? Sushi-Thai has a place off Lake Boone trail but the one in Cary off Kildaire always seems to taste really good, both standard rolls and the fancy shit. Not to mention they've got a LOT of thai selection if someone in your party isn't in the mood for solely sushi.[Edited on October 7, 2010 at 11:11 PM. Reason : ^I forgot about that one, it's pretty good too.]

Tasu. Delicious and BOGO rolls all day, every day. Be careful if you're going with a big group though because they won't split the check.

Mura or Sono, they're the same owners and same menu it just depends on whether you'd rather eat downtown or in North Hills. They're both great sushi with a more upscale vibe than Sushi Blues. Also, if you go get the Screaming O roll it's off the charts.[Edited on October 7, 2010 at 11:19 PM. Reason : ]

My absolute favorite is Little Tokyo in Cary. Hands down. It's a little hole in the wall, but very very nice people who own the place. And they treat their customers like gems - even give free apps! http://raleigh.citysearch.com/profile/6153324/cary_nc/little_tokyo.html#done

Mura @ North Hills is the shit for more upscale sushi. Om nom nom...do want....ASAP

mura is meh.... sono downtown is better

better than any sushi at any place I've been to in this thread, however, is Mizu. But it's in Wake Forest, so pretty out of the way for most Tdub folks. But my Dad is in WF so we go there when I make it home. Excellent, friendly staff, very high quality sushi. Would take that over any place in Raleigh.

^ mizu is fine, and they get props for the kaitenzushi, but i prefer little tokyo if i want truly authentic then i'll go to sushi tsune. when my brother brought his in laws over for his wedding it was the only meal they truly enjoyed. all the other places we went (including a japanese place in fayetteville) the food was too sweet for the japanese palate.

I always liked the rolls at YoHo Asian Bistro in Cary, near the Harris Teeter at Tryon and Walnut st.

A new place just opened called Sushi-O across from Sushi Blues at 222. It's leaps and bounds better than Sushi Blues, which immensely sucks. I have never personally had sushi as bad as Sushi Blues. Though I understand the attraction with it being half price. http://www.yelp.com/biz/sono-raleighhttp://www.yelp.com/biz/mura-raleighThe Screaming O is for beginners:http://iwantmorefood.com/2008/03/13/sweet-shrimp-wow-what-an-experience/

Sono - Creative rolls, shit sashimi. When I went there the sashimi didn't taste fresh at all and the overall meal was expensive. C-Sushi-Thai (Cary) - Creative rolls, decent sashimi, reasonable prices, shit sake selection. Their lobster bomb is the bomb, but also 16 bucks. B+Sushi-Thai (Raleigh) - Went there once when I was hammered. No opinion.Tasu- BOGO rolls are awesome, didn't have the sashimi. If you're looking to just have shit in it with tempura bits and spicy mayo, this is the place to go. The rolls are good, plentiful and cheap. A-Waraji - Very, very good sashimi. Rolls are a bit meh (unless you give the Sushi chef some free reign and they make something up on the spot.) Excellent sake selection. ALittle Tokyo (Cary) - Went there last weekend. The rolls were subpar with what you'd expect, nothing crazy. Fairly cheap prices, plus you get free shit all the time because the owners are Korean (which giving free shit to customers is their culture.) B-Domo (Cary) - This used to be the only Conveyor belt sushi place in the area, then the gave up on the conveyor belt...oh well. Somewhat elevated prices, decent sake selection, limited sashimi section. But holy shit are their rolls huge. We got one (The Maynard) that would have easily been a meal for a person. The rolls were good and creative and very big. B+

Sushi Thai - <3 Bagel Rolls, Sweet Dragon Rolls, and Rainbow Rolls (BOGO!)Waraji - AWESOME staff, service rocks, best sake selection, yummy plum wine, too, rolls are pretty standard, but i hear if you make nice with the sushi chefs you can get some amazing stuff. Kanki - <3 Budokan or however you spell it, pretty cheap, too![Edited on October 8, 2010 at 9:25 AM. Reason : .]

Tasu isn't too bad, but they're very picky about the check as mentioned already due to BOGO deals.
10/8/2010 9:26:23 AM
i guess i just didn't like mura as much because the rolls kept falling apart and i'm already pretty fail at using chopsticks. the taste was fine though.
