This got brought up somewhere else so I figured Id look it up and discuss it here.According to http://tafkac.org/legal/driving.barefoot/driving_barefoot.html its legal in NC. Any contradictions to it?And how many of you do it? I will if Im in flipflops.

It's crucial with some pairs of flip flops.

if i'm driving a long distance there will be periods where i'll drive barefoot. but it's not reoccuring thing day to day. but this guy...

Flipflops is not barefoot!!!Its like saying I would bang that girl rawdog if I was wearing a condom

I find it very annoying to drive barefoot. Then again both my cars have manual transmissions and when i operate the clutch pedal my foot slides across it slightly every time I push it in/out. Also, the pedals on one of my cars are metal with little rubber knobs. That feels horrible on my bare foot.No thanks, I'll keep my shoes/sandals on and if my feet get hot I'll direct the air down there.

i go barefoot a lot when i'm driving long distancesi'll take my shoes off short distances if they're heels and interfere with my ability to smoothly go from the gas to the break (yes, i wear shoes like that)
7/27/2010 3:01:54 PM
If Im wearing flip-flops I will most likely drive barefoot. Otherwise no.
7/27/2010 3:05:41 PM
pat, i bet you own multiple pairs of "driving shoes" dont you?
7/27/2010 3:07:58 PM
i like braking w/ my big toe

If I'm wearing flip flops (which is most of the time if it's warm outside and I'm not in work clothes), I will take them off to drive. Personally I think it's safer to drive barefoot than to be wearing shoes that are only attached to your foot at one end and can get hung up on the other pedal/floormats/whatnot. It might be different if my car had metal pedals, but mine are rubberized and even bare feet do not slip. Also sometimes if it's wet outside and my shoes/socks have gotten soaked, and I'm headed home, I'll take them off and drive barefoot. I hate, HATE, wet socks.

I do it in my convertible when I'm wearing flipflops. What about sticking your foot out the window?

I'll drive barefoot over sandals because its safer. Everytime Ive tried to wear them they get stuck on a pedal or hung on a floormat or some bullshit and having a manual makes it even more of a problem.

Flip flops are for the birdsTeva's for life

Slave Famous: Totally agree with you on that, but honestly its irreverent to my point. You also fail to make an argument other than you dont like it. Sorry to clarify, if I have on flipflops, they come off. If Ive shoes on, they stay on. As most have said, this is def more safer than with them on, as they tend to slide around. I used to also have a manual, and will fully agree having a clutch makes it fun some days.

Why the fuck would this be illegal
7/27/2010 3:37:25 PM
I wear flip flops all the time. I do not take them off to drive.

Driving barefoot is the best way to drive and feel the road. The next best it's those thin racing shoes. It shouldn't be illegal since it's the closest you can get to feeling the road.[Edited on July 27, 2010 at 3:51 PM. Reason : ]

7/27/2010 3:51:21 PM

No shit! You know I always wondered about this, cause growing up in NY I was taught it was illegal. Turns out for the last ten years I haven't violated a barefoot law after all!
7/27/2010 11:39:15 PM
i remove my sandles and drive barefoot. i do prefer driving in shoes but sometimes im too lazy to find socks. the foot area on the s2000 must be small because i manage to get the back of the sandle stuck on the floor/mat/who knows. when driving automatics i keep the sandles on.

Answer is no, because I just learned to drive stick 4 days ago, and I'm trying not to kill my new pick-up truck.
