Have you ever wondered how amazingly accurate the lines are night after night, game after game? Even when they are off, way off, they are still more accurate than so. I just wonder are they pc generated or are the peeps at the LVSC just pure genius? Maybe it's just a combination of both.Predicting game outcomes is very tedious. When you think of all the layers of multiple possibilities it seems difficult to imagine that it can be broken down into a science. On top of that, add a very short time constraint to create the lines

I didn't want to clutter the sports betting thread up with this discussion.

It's not that hard.Set the line, then all of us idiots even it out by betting for/against it.
3/24/2007 12:40:39 AM
^I tend to agree. But it is still tricky.

How can setting the lines NOT be that hard? You take two ball clubs who have never faced each other and predict how the game will turn out, down to the tee. It's not about what side the gamblers fall on.[Edited on March 24, 2007 at 1:07 AM. Reason : .]

The line changes as the bets come in though.

I must be missing something.

^^ Calm down with the swearing in here, dude. ^ the lines change about 1 pt or so. 2 at the most. So that's really not worth mentioning. Besides, noone said anything about the lines "changing" anyways. Its about the line creation thats crazy.

There are pros who set the line, and most of the bookies follow suit.If you got paid to set lines, you'd be just as good as the other guys. It's not like it's magic or something.
3/24/2007 1:07:31 AM
it's called... the people who makes the lines know what they are talking about...
3/24/2007 1:07:50 AM
Yeah, I understand they are professionals. But good grief. I think it would be counter intuitive to work for some commission setting lines, than to just be a flat out high stakes gambler! Don't you agree. It seems like you could make a lot more. To the contrary, just b/c you're a "professional" and you're paid to do something. Does not make you good at it.
3/24/2007 1:12:58 AM
i agree with you to an extent, but the folks who make the lines... they know college basketball... they know what the hell they are talkin about.[Edited on March 24, 2007 at 1:22 AM. Reason : 1]

If that's the case then they should be billionaires. If they know something THAT well. Why are you getting angry about this? It's just a simple discussion. No need to blow steam.
3/24/2007 1:24:46 AM
im not pissed about your "discussion". im pissed about floyd's tech. which screwed my parlay. goin to bed... take memphis big tomorrow
3/24/2007 1:27:51 AM
Okay, I thought you were getting angry. My bad. Yeah, I was po'ed as well. So take Memphis on the spread? bodog dosn't have $ up yet. And what about the second game?Do you see any parlays overall. Im a bit low on my funds here.[Edited on March 24, 2007 at 1:30 AM. Reason : .]
