Microsoft needs your help downloading a free trial version of Microsoft OneNote. This software is available to NCSU students for FREE and can help you during this stressful time with your classes.
There are also many prizes available from Microsoft, including: ** XBOX 360 ** ** Toyota Prius ** ** Tablet PC laptop ** ** MP3 Player **
The security cert was bad, and it's not hosted on a M$ domain... it DOES seem a bit sketchy to me. I tried to go to the main domain (order-10.com or something like that), and it's a bad request. I would not give my personal info to a site like that.
I do not understand why you think that there is something "sketchy" about this website. It is made my Microsoft and they would like to reach out to colleges in the U.S to promote OneNote better. They chose two students from 50 different colleges in the country (which we are competing with) to try and promote this software for them. There is no problem if you wish to not provide your real information. There is no conformation email and therefore you can type anything you wish. Also, if you do not want the program, you can simply delete it with nothing to lose (and you can still win prizes).
I would also like to mention that we at NCSU have decided to buy another XBOX 360 that will be given out to a NCSU student that downloads the program; since the microsoft prizes are for all 50 colleges (but some are weekly prizes and they are at http://www.onenotesweepstakes.com ).
I am happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have to help you with the program.
Can somebody PM me and tell me why this made the front page? Tech Talk, sure, the front page? The Microsoft reps were handing out this program at the minority career fair (late Sept.), its nothing new.
This made front page because there are many people out there that will take advantage of this opportunity and at least try the free program. Also, this program started in the beginning of october sometime, and it continues till Dec. 15th. We didnt hand out any flyers or anything till october and the minority career fair was never attended by the OneNote reps. so I am not sure of your statement, but this is new to the people that havent heard about it, and I wanted to try and get more people to hear and try the program. Also, the original post is supposed to stay between 100 and 150 words and therefore there is not much actual information about onenote in the post; however, here is some of the many things that the program does:
OneNote is a new software program from Microsoft that was designed specifically for students to help them organize their notes and other information better. It gives you one place to gather virtually any type of information—text, audio, video, lecture notes and handouts, web research, etc.—giving you quick access to all your notes. OneNote has a recording feature that allows you to record lectures or other things as you are typing, which will be synchronized together so that when you go to the playback, onenote will highlight exactly what you were typing as it was being said in the recording. OneNote’s powerful keyword search allows you to find the information you’re looking for immediately instead of spending precious time looking through mounds of notes. It enables you to mark and easily keep track of to-dos and important information, such as items to remember for an exam, and easily summarize them so that you can manage your tasks more efficiently and be better prepared (Plus leaving you more free time for those other important college activities). OneNote also allows you to easily share your notes with others, either by emailing them with a click of a button or by setting up real-time sharing sessions between up to 75 computers so you can take notes or do research papers together (provided you have an internet connection). You can also easily back up your notes so you’ll never have to worry about losing your notebook again.
Microsoft can help NCSU students, and all students for that matter, by taking their inferior products off the market and allowing UNIX based systems to flourish.
You automatically get registered to win a prize from us once you activate the program. Then you go to http://www.onenotesweepstakes.com to win to a prize from microsoft. I am the other rep from ncsu, so if anyone has any qustions please feel free to ask me.

Actually it is an XBOX 360 that you can win. Not false advertising. Microsoft gives away one weekly on that website provided, and Greg and I will be giving away 1 XBOX 360 to an NCSU student in december when this promotion ends.
Also, we do not want to buy an AD because we are not selling a product. This is a FREE program that you can download to try out.

There will not be a free version of this program like the other Microsoft Office programs. This program is sold for $99, but students may buy it for $49. This is your chance to get the program for free and hopefully you check it out and may enjoy it.
I don't get why everyone is so damn pessimistic on TWW.
I actually really like One Note. One of my professors uses it on his Tablet PC to project lecture notes, so I decided to check it out. The fact that you aren't confined to lines and specific indentation is reason enough to give it a chance.
This has no virus or spyware. You would have heard about it if there were. Microsoft has a stict spamming policy and if you try it, you will see that there are no emails sent to you besides the one that gives you your activation code. That is their only reason for getting you email. This is also for you to win prizes. It is a microsoft office program which is some of the most known software available which shows that there will be no virus or spyware of any kind.
I'll vouch for everything -jman- said... there aren't any spyware or virus files associated with the download. As far as the security certificate... it's no big deal... I get the same message every day for signing onto our broadband system. They send you an e-mail with your activation code and that's it! You all are making a big deal out of a reputable company trying to promote a new software! CALM DOWN!!!
And as for advertising, they aren't selling anything! Being on the home page is where they belong. It gets lots of viewing for a while AND it deserves to be there just as much as any of the fundraising or other notifications usually on the home page.
Those of you who are so against posting on the home page... why don't you all post some ideas on how they could promote their item in a way more appealing to you? (and no... those ideas can't include paying you to try it...)
I havent tried it out, but for those of you who have... can you access your OneNote documents/files after OneNote has expired? If you cant, whats the point of using something for 120 days, when you wont be able to access its files on the 121st day?
The site is owned by Catalysis. Some ad guys out of Seattle.

It looks legit enough. They've done other work for microsoft in the past. It would appear the Microsoft just outsourced the work to them rather than doing it internally. Which makes sense given that it would probably be a waste of microsoft's own resources to advertise something like this to students. And if they were pretending to be doing this for microsoft, they'd probably be shutdown pretty quick.
As for the certificate error, thats just shoddy work.
I still wouldn't give them shit for personal info.
The trial period is for 180 days. This will provide you with OneNote till the end of May (which will be one more semester). And yes you will have the files still after it expires. Also, we have hundreds of full versions discs that can be given out however we fill fit. Therefore, if there are people that would like the full version, we would be happy to supply you with them after december when our job is complete.
Also, yes of course Microsoft is trying to sell a product in the long run, but are allowing you to try it before you buy it. Also, they are giving students a deal by cutting the price in half from $99 to $49.

I dont know what to say about that. It doesnt happen for everyone, but other websites have given it to me before. There are many people that have downloaded this for us and they will verify that nothing is wrong with the program. If you wish not to give real information, that is fine, but you will just have to activate the program right away.
When was the last time you needed a 80MB program to do ANYTHING as basic as taking notes. I'm not installing it but if I did it better be able to cook, clean, walk the dog and take out the trash.
I know for a fact that you can get a full copy for free at ECU...no trial, nothing to sign, no information provided, just have to go by and pick it up and you get a full copy for FREE!
The only problem is that it is at ECU, so for those that dont live around there can still get it to try at NCSU. Also, for those that do want the full version, we have hundreds of them and will be able to distribute them to those that want it in december.
