money is money! 112000 will pay 2 tenured professors. that money could have been used instead of raising tuition or housing costs. this university wastes money at an appaling rate. i hate it for yall in the business school b/c this university has no business sense.
Lighting the tower red is an excellent idea, and if it took that much to do it, so be it. The tower is what people see most of our University when they drive down Hillsborough St. I think it looks awesome lit up red!!
look at the article and you will see the problem. Even the administration was unaware of the grandure of the expense. Seems no one was aware it cost that much. - guys the chancellor is most likely gone (officially nominated) , and the provst is already gone. It is kinda funny, i like the lights, but not at that price. I admit that i can see where more money is spent in even dumber areas, but we just found out about this one.
----"It's funny, even when it's so tragic in view of the real problems that the university faces," said De Buysscher, who served on a faculty committee that supported the tower lighting proposal in the summer of 1998.--
I know most of you don't like Chancellor Fox, and I don't agree with everything she's done...but she has made NCSU a better University, and it would be a HUGE loss if she were to leave.
Man, I read that article in the N&O. I applaud the red lenses and everything, but wasn't there some cheaper way to do it? I'm not balking at the idea, just the ONE HUNDRED TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS that it took to carry it out.
a lot of the money was spent for stuff that needed to be done anyway....so the cost of lighting the thing up wasn't really 112,000 if you subtract the 73,000 for the new lights which they said they were about to buy anyway (not to mention the price for the bench and to repair the electrical box, which the story doesn't talk about), and the price is 39,000 . it is still kinda high, but the N&O wouldn't be writing a story about it...
