MENASA Presents : Arabian Night 2005 Harris Field (in front of Witherspoon) at 7pm Saturday, April 16th, 2005
Arabian Night is a cultural festivity displaying the culture and arts of the Middle East. The arts of the Middle East will be presented through a sample of traditional Middle Eastern foods, a variety of different musical forms, and dances from several areas spanning the region. The tent, Hookas and the set-up of the event itself is meant to represent the traditional Bedwin living style. The night will include Belly Dancing Performances, Live Arabic Band, Traditional Dance Performances, Hookas and FREE food.
Hookahs are used for smoking hashisha. Nargilas are used for tobacco. And the word is spelled Bedouin. From personal experience, who the fuck would want to experience the lifestyle of a nomadic people who live in the desert, and herd camels all the time? Get Real.
My very best friends are Iraqi, I fight, sweat, and bleed with them everyday in hopes of their country becoming free. So YOU shut the fuck up you snot nosed hippy mother fucker. BTW, I'm also SCUBADUBA.
who was that directed at eahanhan is actually arab, you moron. just cause youre in the army or whatever doesnt mean youre the shit and the supreme authority on everything. Bedouins arent any dumber than cowboys, so STFU.
Yes, I am HALF arabic, but that still doesn't mean I don't know about the culture, etc. All I am saying is that just because you presume that our culture, art, dance, etc is worthless b/c we're desert nomads. You may see some of the boring side of it being in the Army, ScubaDuba, but there's a lot more to it.
"who the fuck would want to experience the lifestyle of a nomadic people who live in the desert, and herd camels all the time?"
That is an extreme misconception. It's like saying, why would anyone go to the South when all them southerners are hicks and do nothing but milk cows and gather eggs. There is a LOT more to the mid east than just desert and nomads; I haven't been to Iraq, but I could attest to Saudi, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Palestine.
bedouins are a certain kind of people. They are sheep herders and camel herders. Just like Cowboys. I was actually joking, but since you got your starbucks drinking, sitting around the table in an air conditioned room in an upper middle class neighborhood discussing world issues of which you can have absolutely no conception of reality, then I apologize.
