Things looking ugly for former public safety director

Check out this story from the N&O. Looks like Ralph Harper has found a way to get himself in some more trouble. "He explained that passing the magnet over the DAT recorder tapes would erase them," Sasser (attorney representing his former secretary) wrote. "Chief Harper told Ms. Huber then to 'throw the magnet in the river.'" OUCH. Things couldn't get any worse for this guy.

Most of that article is old news, as we all know by now that Chief Clancy Wiggum Ralph Harper was a fat, corrupt wanna-be cop who fancied himself as a Magnum P.I. type detective. But two things strike me about that article.
Quote:
" In a phone interview Thursday, Harper said he gave no such directive. "That is nothing more than a lie," he said. "I have never told or encouraged anyone to violate the law or break the law by destroying property. She can make this allegation if she wants to, but she will see me down the road on that one because I will not have my character attacked.""
Them's fightin' words!
Quote:
"Huber, who began working for Harper in 1997, claims Harper illegally recorded her conversations without her knowledge. She is seeking $120,000 in compensatory damages from the university. Sasser said she is also entitled to punitive damages."
I can agree that the University would go to any lengths to cover up misconduct by employees. Remember that incident when the public safety officer (whose criminal record was overlooked) asked a girl to strip in front of her car.
