Enforcement of Posting Guidelines - READ

We have spent a lot of time upgrading the system and we feel that it would be a wasted effort if we allow the quality of TWW to diminish in the ways that it has over the last several months. With the launch of the crazyweb 2.1, we have adopted a stringent attitude towards the bullshit that we witnessed lately. I strongly suggest that several of you take a hard look here before embarking on your usual wolfweb rampage. To summarize the linked document:
1. no new fake accounts. each unity email will be allowed one wolf web account. any non unity email will be subject to an activation fee.
2. we are watching you. instead of deleting topics and posts, I will be deleting accounts of users who continue to abuse the system. first you will be warned, then suspended, then terminated/fined.
I hate to come off as an ass, but something has to be done and I don't have the time to lecture each one of the culprits.

everything looks fantastic! but i have to say that i feel sorta sorry for those on here that aren't NCSU students and now have to pay, despite establishing themselves as loyal wolf webbers and being the type of posters that actually contribute something
^^^^i agree with that, why not do like accboards.com ban all fake accounts and only have real ones. Like i had to use my unity over there but there are alot of non unity people and no one is gonna pay to post. Others had to use there home e-mail, real ones. ALOT of people do not want there real e-mail shown here, if u know what i mean.

now that is a new one, NEVER EVER seen that on a MB before. The site is not a drug.
Hey Crazy J I went to the tech talk area and entered in the subject PS2. It gave me an error saying that it was not a valid subject is this supposed to happen?
"1. no new fake accounts. each unity email will be allowed one wolf web account. any non unity email will be subject to an activation fee."
Er...
Bad idea. And how, exactly, do you plan to attract incoming freshmen without unity accounts to the site, again? And why should this site be limited to unity accounts? Isn't one of the more prolific posters named ECUAlumni?
How about: look out for duplicate registrations and obvious junk registrations, instead?

While I do see the problem multiple accounts can create, I think that charging non-NCSU e-mail addresses is a bad idea. Why not include accounts from Campbell, Meredith, or ECU? That would bring in more people and lead to even more lively discussions. Also, why not set a more concrete standard for abuse?
...and for those of you who seem confused as to what constitutes abuse, it's rather obvious. if you really have to ask then my advice is to mind your p's and q's
now i jsut want to know when i am gonna become a moderator... i would be damn good as a moderator i think... that and i need a title... i asked for one before but by now i've forgotten what it was... i'll be taking suggestions for what i should ask Jake for..
I agree 100% with marko, Special K etc. Considering that Crazy J pays for the server etc. and everything else that goes into this site he can damn do whatever the hell he pleases with this board!!!
The whole non unity fee is really bad. I mean what if an alumni wanted to post here after they graduated. The unity accounts are shutdown 6 months after graduation. I myself don't even use my unity account anymore so i registered with my homepage address.
Yea, definitely don't charge for non-unity. I think you should just disallow hotmail and other "throw away" accounts, and keep a list of banned domains that you expand as necessary.
When I asked what constitutes abuse, I meant more that the guidelines should be made specific and then shown to the user when they register. A lot of people who use these boards are new to the internet and don't really understand "netiquette." Plus, with moderation, there's always that temptation to censor users with whom you might disagree, and there are a lot of grey areas there.
i figure as long as the e-mail they register with is a solid one from an ISP, it should be free... and if they want to use one from hotmail or something of the like, charge them the fee... and if there are extenuating circumstances (such as not having their own ISP account if they are high school peeps on the 'rents' connection) then they can take that up w/ the moderators....
Well, I at first thought this was a good idea. But, I now choose to renig on that. The lounge fell off long ago, and its too late to try to turn things around. I barely post there, and if i do its because I am looking for someone or something. Tech talk is still clean, and thats all I give a shit about anymore.
I think you should just let them do what they want to. They dont bother us in other areas, and I dont bother them in thiers.
I think there should just be a new room for people who want to chat on what the lounge was originally based on, but without all the crap that is now associated with it. I know it sounds IRC, but i think it would be better than just dropping the people who just want to fuck around. Its a whole part of ncsu (ie the freedom of expression tunnel) You could then have a room for both sides
Problem is that they do bother us in the other areas. They think the whole thing is a giant fucking whiteboard that they can trash up with whatever they post. Personally I applaud Jake's new policies, and plus, it will help cover the hosting fees.
how do i use the smileys and the character formatting? first, i thought they were buttons, but they are not. then, the keyboard equivalents are not even given. so what do i do?
also, is it just me, or has the site actually become much slower?
I'm not sure what to say.. I don't post an awful lot to begin with, but still.. "abuse" should be defined, and also I don'tthink the e-mail thing should be restricted.. Some of the people here that I like talking to the most are not from NCSU.. Have we become so conseded that we do not associate with others any more.. I mean.. the garbage accounts can creat a problem, but is it worth shuting everyone out that isn't NCSU.. Not to many people would pay to post here I don't think.. but maby thats just me.
hey CrazyJ, question......i have a NC State account but its not hooked up to my user info...will i be ok with a hotmail account since i have been a member for a while?
I've got the same prob as cassthesass...I actually don't remember whether i posted my unity account or my netscape one. There's gotta be some other way to regulate it other than by email accounts
Could there be anyway that people like myself and the above posters could simply change our regsitered email address. I registered under an old AOL account that has not been in use for almost a year.
I like the new wolf web very much but it does kinda stink that everything gets locked... hey Crazy J, maybe like Thursday can be obnoxious day or something and we can be crass again? Please?
