Looking for a great way to ring in the holiday season and celebrate the end of fall semester?! well, THROW ON YOUR SANTA HATS AND JOIN US ON HILLSBOROUGH STREET FOR AN END OF THE SEMESTER SANTA HIKE! For the first time in Hborough Street history, this end of the semester hike has a theme...CHRISTMAS and COSTUMES!
For all you hikers who have previously participated, brace yourselves, this is going to be one wild hike!! For those who haven't, all the fun takes place at the restaurants and establishments along Hillsborough Street from Oberlin to Rosemary Street!
Prizes - East Village will be giving away $50, $25 and $10 gift cards to EV as prizes during the hike for best costumes. - Sadlacks will be giving away $20 and $10 gift cards for best costumes.
If dressing in costumes is not enough incentive for you to get out and brave the cold weather then maybe this will help...
Most of the merchants along the street are having COSTUME CONTESTS and AWARD 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place PRIZES!
These merchants are: Sadlacks Hereos Hot Box Pizza Chili Bomba Shakedown Street East Village Pantana Bobs Melvins/5 0'clocks Pita Pit
LETS BUILD A HOLIDAY TRADITION THE LIKES OF WHICH UNC, ECU, and DUKE HAVE NEVER SEEN!! We look forward to seeing you there! INVITE YOUR FRIENDS and lets make this a very merry Christmas indeed!
What was so wrong with doing the hike without a theme? Wasn't Halloween enough? When I was still at State I was already getting tired of proposed new "traditions" being over pushed.
Also makes us non-Christmasy people (read: Jews, Muslims, and other such heathens) feel even more left out of a campus environment that already ignores most other cultures.
Well I think its a terrible idea . Everybody is gonna half ass their costumes (if they even bother to try) b/c they have papers/projects/other shit they've been working on all week.
If they want to improve the hike they should do something to encourage people to actually hike instead of packing into Mitch's/east village/wherever else people go sit on their asses to drink at these days. Oh and get the street shut down. Its just a matter of time before some drunk ass gets hit by another drunk ass in a car.
There would be a hike regardless of a theme or costumes...so the question is why is one needed? Other than Halloween I can only picture this making the hike worse.
And also, I thought they started blocking traffic for every hike these days...are they not doing that anymore?
In 10 or 15 years 80% of NCSU student body will be asians or indians so all these traditions will disappear as they care nothing about them and only care about getting that 4.33 or whatever GPA (fuck sports too).
