Check out ART ON THE EDGE, Raleigh's new contemporary art festival on AUGUST 21-23 at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Performances will take place outside on Lichtin Plaza and inside Fletcher Theater.
Thursday Aug 21 will include a FREE concert by local music groups Birds of Avalon (who have previously toured with the Flaming Lips), Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies, The Cartridge Family, and The Huguenots.
The Old Ceremony will perform Friday Aug 22 in collaboration with aerial dancer Rebecca Drake and members of the Tangophilia dance company ($10 ticket price also gets you into a comedic performance by El Gleno Grande).
Saturday Aug 23 culminates the festival with FREE circus/dance/acrobatic performances by Australia's Strange Fruit as they perform atop 4 meter high poles. Inside Fletcher Theater will be short theatrical performances by Raleigh's leading theater companies, Theatre in the Park, Burning Coal, and North Carolina Theatre ($15 combined ticket price).
ALL WEEKEND: Architects of Air, artists from the UK, will install a HUGE walk through luminarium on Lichtin Plaza that will take you on a journey through light and color.
It's cheap, it's fun, and there's beer. What more could you want?
