Candlelight Vigil @ 8pm on Tuesday, 04/17/07

Most of you know about the shooting situation at Virginia Tech. The NCSU Student Government and several other student organizations are teaming up to hold a candlelight vigil @ 8pm on Tuesday, April 17th 2007, at Harris Field in front of Witherspoon Student Center.
It’s great to see that this is happening. There was a quote from some show I don’t remember off hand, but it was something to the effect that “they don’t want someone who will close their eyes and pray, they need someone who will open their eyes and lead.”
It can also be an opportunity to address gun control, or mental health, or campus unity because it’s harder to hurt a friend or anything just so that people can feel like they are actively doing something, something to make things better, rather than just being reactive & sad.
Give people a chance to be a part of the healing process.
I think prayers power is to bring people together like this. But you can’t just leave it at closing your eyes and wishing things were different. You have to use the opportunity it gives to be a part of change. I think it falls under the parameter of god helps those who help themselves. I also think any continued activity to help people feel like they are doing something positive can help them heal.
there is a box and paper in Talley that you can leave prayers and messages for the people at VT. They are going to deliver all of the messages from NC State at one time.
