I've poked around at doing the chartered car thing before as an alternative to flying cross county with young children. It is crazy expensive from what I could tell, like $1000s of dollars per day. I think you can do a chauffeured RV service for less and then you get a lot more flexibility about where it takes you and how fast you can get there.One thing I was curious about and couldn't figure out is whether or not you have to let Amtrack employees and/or other passengers pass through your car. Like, if they had more than one charter hooked up at a time, either your both stuck on your respective car, or you have to let people pass through so they can go to other cars (like the lounge/observation cars).

Maybe they have an isolated passthrough on one side of the car. Restricts windows to one side, but you can't have it all.
