Multiple attacks in less than a month. Something must be done

Full size trucks are the real threat. I was in nola for nye. Corner of bourbon and canal around 1:30. The upside is attacks like this always bring the community together. For a little while.

Some news reports are saying the truck was fully automatic. I'm not sure why the average citizens needs that kind of vehicle[Edited on January 1, 2025 at 3:51 PM. Reason : ]

Cars don't kill people
1/1/2025 4:01:14 PM
Wouldn't have been able to kill that many people in a prius

boycott anything associated with Elon Muskthat seems like fucking common sense to begin with(this possibly being a separate issue than OP but I was referencing the cybertruck death)

Probably will be a point in the next few years where we can mandate an AI system to prevent a car from running people over
1/2/2025 12:44:07 AM
^But what if someone is trying to run over a mass shooter?
1/2/2025 3:04:54 AM
Or what if they just use an old vehicle?
1/2/2025 7:54:23 AM
Cars save slightly more lives than they do taking them
1/2/2025 8:12:18 AM
Do they, though? If there weren't any cars on the road, I could bike to work without getting killed.]
1/2/2025 8:57:45 AM
why did no one with a car stop him?

can't wait for turrists to remotely hack and control cars with a Flipper Zero

It's time we go back to driving something like this.Shooter driver would be too busy operating hand clutches and yokes. Could be easily immobilized.

We need universal background checks to buy a car. It's just common sense
1/2/2025 8:42:38 PM
Assault cars aren't the problem. You can kill someone with a regular car too.
1/2/2025 9:27:46 PM
the only way to stop a bad guy with a car is with a good guy with a car. I imagine cities will implement "zones" where *electric* vehicles will not be able to operate when within range of these zones. they'll probably go into limp mode near them. That could dynamically protect crowded areas and they could charge an extra permitting fee to enable these zones for events and make $$$$. Of course this will allow anyone to disable your vehicle whenever they want, leading to our near-dystopian future. To me, this is where we're headed, to me.
1/3/2025 10:31:45 AM
^To build on that.I'm thinking that limp mode should be a subscription service for every vehicle henceforth. Let the government take over implementation. Every car from 1935 to present will have to return to their local dealer to be retrofitted with a limp mode device (similar to a blow box for alcoholics). Let's give every licensed driver until March 1, 2025 to have their vehicle retrofitted with a limp mode wifi-enabled add on. Charge drivers $29.99/month to keep the feature updated. If you go more than 15 minutes past due on your payment, then you go straight to jail for 30 days and attend a terrorist rehabilitation clinic. If you can't keep your limp mode service up to date, then you clearly can't afford the poor tax are definitely a terrorist looking for an opportunity to run over people.

There's just no need for people to be able to drive around in public in a miltary-style assault car.
1/3/2025 9:56:32 PM
^also, I heard it was an AUTOMATIC assault vehicle
