This would be so life-changing... I feel like I could be such a better person if I had a 3-day weekend every week. I'd visit family and friends more. I'd get more exercise and more sleep. I'd get more done around the house. II'd be able to focus more on projects and hobbies and cooking and gardening and reading and learning about stuff i always wanted to learn about.

So I work 9 hour days and have every other Friday off. I've been doing it for pretty much my entire career and it is great. The Friday I have have off is usually when I schedule things like doctors appointments, car work, etc., so I end up not having to miss actual work hours or use up days off. Work gets the same level of productivity out of me -- in fact the extra hour that I work on weekdays (usually early morning or late afternoon) is when nobody is in the office, so no meetings and nobody bugging me, meaning more productive during that time.

We had 4-hour workweeks at my job two summers ago, it was magical. The best part was each week when you suddenly realized you only had one or two more days left until the weekend.

I've worked a 9/80 schedule for the better part.of 15 years. Essentially what legendary TWW user Wraith said, I work 9 hours a day and get every other Friday off. The "on" Friday is typically 8 hours.
Honestly, the 9 hour days feel normal to me now. The 8 hour day feels like an abbreviated work day. My off Friday is awesome, however I find myself doing chores and errands I didn't get a chance to do during the week (a lot of businesses have opened and closed during my 9 hour work day + any commute I may have). My 3 day weekends feel "normal" and my 2 day weekends feel far too short.

We have a fairly relaxed schedule for work anyway... As long as you make your meetings, are generally available during core hours, and get your work done....no one really cares how or when exactly you get those 44 or 36 hours in.

I need clarity. This is for hourly employees right? Hourly employees work all kinds of jobs but I’m thinking of trades, nurses, retail, service industries….a lotta of those businesses already work 6 or 7 days/week (not necessarily every employee working every day, but they are open for business 5-7 days week). So they either pay more in over time (which they’re not going to want to do) or they have to hire more employees, so now you’re getting paid less because you’re working less hours? I’m all for workers rights and fair compensation. But wouldn’t this create job openings that would probably go unfilled since we currently have pretty low unemployment? I’m not opposed to this concept, I’m just skeptical.

This seems more ideal for your traditional 9-5 M-F office work, but I’m guessing a lot of those people are salaried.

Idk I’m not an economist. Just seems like this would have some unintended consequences. Doesn’t sound like this has any traction anyways.

My wife is a nurse. Having to take time off for basic errands/tasks is a real pain for her.
