I'm reading a reddit user saying he took DMT and had something akin to NDE

still kind of makes me think it's all just a big hallucination having something to do with those kinds of chemicals in your brain

wouldn't ya think?

like time doesn't have any meaning right before your brain dies, so you get to relive or experience stuff

stuff that you aren't actually experiencing

idk I want to believe in this kind of stuff

I want there to be some kind of meaning to existence, but I just don't think there is inherent meaning to it

and having to create meaning seems pointless

this video says "near-death experience" is a misnomer, and uses the term RED (Recalled Experience of Death)

or, that term has been used in more recent studies instead of NDE

I haven't had the cliché near-death experience of hovering over my own body and seeing a light and all that. But in college, I did come near death and realized it.

I was crossing Western on foot at Avent Ferry to get back onto campus. The signal to cross was very short, so I waited at the median for the next signal.

When the signal came, I stepped off the curb. I'm in the habit of stepping down from curbs instead of stepping out, which has almost never mattered in my life, but it mattered that day. Because I did not realize some maniac decided to run the red light and make a left turn from Avent Ferry onto Western.

As soon as my foot hit the street, a car rushed by inches from me. I've walked close to passing cars before, but I've never had a car go so fast so close. I remember I'd been looking at the ground and saw the wheels nearly clip my toes.

I finished crossing and had to stop for a minute at the corner. If I had stepped out instead of down, I would've certainly been hit and probably killed.

I don't think anyone else noticed. No one else walking at the time. Traffic continued normally. I'd like to think the driver realized, but I have no way of knowing.

I think about that moment every time I cross a street now. Haven't had a close call like that since.

I definitely about got t-boned on the driver side at that stoplight up near where that chinese place was beside the.. towers dorm, idk. can't remember campus roads or names now lolz, but turning out left, then there was that pizza place I loved but no one else did, what was that called :3

anyway, definitely had someone just outright run a red

I'm surprised I got out of Raleigh without having any wrecks, since I did delivery driving for a while

I can't imagine how much worse the traffic is now in some areas if the population has gone way up since 20 years ago

University Towers. You're talking about turning left from Dan Allen Drive onto Hillsborough Street. The restaurant at the time was Sakura Xpress. It's been a Zaxby's for a million years now. That wretched pizzeria was PizzAmerica. It's a Mediterranean restaurant called Shawarma Stop now.

I thought PizzAmerica was really good, but that was by comparison to the major ones, I guess (domino's etc)

I don't miss Capital Blvd. up that way, that's for sure

some cray cray drivers on there :3 could have had some NDEs and somehow managed to be unscathed

and the population has boomed in Raleigh too, ain't it?

it had boomed like 15 years ago, so I assume it's still booming*

actually, I do kind of miss Capital Blvd., upon second thought

Ed Mckay's RIP

A girlfriend in high school wanted the song "I'll Be" on her computer, but she didn't have a CD drive, so I got the MP3, split it across a few floppy disks, and carried it over to her house. Then I found fifty dollars.

I thought he said "your crying soldier" for a while LOL

I think my hearing hasn't ever been 100%, because I've misheard loads of lyrics over the years

I guess it's relatively common though, since some singers don't enunciate, or even attempt to be intelligible
