10/28/2023 10:12:25 AM
How much are plastic bags?
10/28/2023 11:30:27 AM
Bill payment costs money?
10/28/2023 12:09:08 PM
Buy an air compressor and keep it in your trunk
10/28/2023 1:32:22 PM
A hand pump works fine. Car tire pressures are not very high. My target set point is 35 psi.
10/28/2023 1:59:56 PM
so much money is wasted on "services" that most people's grandparents did themselves
10/28/2023 3:55:10 PM
What are some examples you had in mind?
10/28/2023 4:48:37 PM
the biggest has got to be eating outthere are a bunch of other small things to which add upanother thing has to do with community and familylike childcare expense is a big point of contention nowadays. it used to not be an expense, even if the mother was busy, grandparents, local neighbors or grandmothersnowadays I assume if you left your kid with someone, there would be people who go like "oh what if they're kidnapped!!!! "and more and more people see doing stuff for family as being a chore rather than... familyanother thing is like passing things down. I'm the eldest sibling, but I've always seen people in my extended family and in mine pass down clothes and other thingssometimes you'd send over a box of all the old stuffsharing bedroomspeople's living standards have ballooned and then they compare the 60s/70s/80s, whatever idkanother simple thing is handyman work. I admit I haven't picked a ton up in comparison to my father and his father, but I'm working to rectify that. imagine how much costs one could cut if they didn't need to call a tradesman for every small thingwe have the internet now too!Of course some things in the economy have become unfair, I'm a big proponent of more antitrust myself, but people need more awareness[Edited on October 28, 2023 at 5:03 PM. I try to only get mad about fees that are unavoidable. You don't have to use plastic bags, and you can pay by ACH.
10/28/2023 8:50:26 PM
Honestly, for plastic bags specifically, I'm perfectly okay with a cost.Reusable bags aren't that hard. keep a few in the carsimple way to be more sustainable
10/28/2023 9:00:16 PM
Get mad? What kind of weak ass Straw man argumentment is that?! [Edited on October 28, 2023 at 9:17 PM. Reason : the fucking thread is things that used to be free that now arent]

^^Sorry, you're right. I lost sight of original intent and thought it was more of a complaint thread about things people wished were still free. Also conflating with the things being too expensive thread. If I can make minor adaptations in life to avoid feelings of victimhood, I will.

10/30/2023 6:07:40 PM
is the "stores charging for plastic bags" a DC area thing or a store policy? Cause Harris Teeter doesn't specifically charge for plastic bags.
10/30/2023 6:43:07 PM

I experienced the grocery bag fee while vacationing in Colorado earlier this year. Maybe it's just a City Market thing? There was a shortage of grocery carts to use because people would rather haul all their groceries out in a cart than pay $0.05 per bag.
10/30/2023 10:41:46 PM
haul all of their plastic-wrapped items out in a cart
10/30/2023 11:09:13 PM
Self-checkout used to be free, now I make sure to tip to support the scanner and its family
10/31/2023 9:29:39 AM
I've noticed that it seems most conservative boomers really hate self-checkout. I don't really understand.
10/31/2023 11:11:17 AM
More and more places charging the “credit card” fee when you pay with a card. I know the merchant fees are high and almost nobody pays with cash anymore. I get why it’s done. But it seems like a new (last couple of years) thing.
10/31/2023 12:24:37 PM
no idea how y'all all missed that OP was clearly talking about *whispers* s-e-x.
10/31/2023 12:35:10 PM
You have no idea how that was missed? How about because this is a haven for a lot of nerds who interpret everything literally (the way God intended)?
