thread on the impending discovery of a room temperature super conductor
7/30/2023 10:26:15 PM
You mean the thread on some scientists getting caught fabricating data
7/30/2023 10:42:27 PM
fabricated data is a type of data
7/31/2023 11:06:40 PM
Two replications out of Chinese labs now. This might be the real deal. HOLY SHIT!!https://targum.video/v/2023/8/1/e2ad3b8e86961ccfdcf411d2d4d18d3f/https://twitter.com/AlpsHenry/status/1686366725808537601?s=202nd video even clearer

if this does turn out legit, no doubt it will be the first of many materials developed in the years to come that leverage the same quantum tunneling in the lattice. very exciting

Smells like EmDrive.

You can already buy LK-99 on Alibaba

New lab is finding only 100Kelvin superconductivityA group of Korean experts believe the data isn’t good enough to say it’s room temp superconductors I’m saying this is mostly a bust at this point

i’m sorry for your loss

what's happening here? I only know what a superconductor is on a basic level. Why does a magnet moving a piece of material show superconductivity?
8/3/2023 8:35:50 AM
What's the scientifically agreed definition of room temperature?
8/3/2023 8:38:50 AM
^^Main relevant property is zero electrical resistance at room temperature. It means your electric motors in cars become 2x as powerful or your batteries can hold 2x as much capacity at the same sizes. It means your cell phones and computers run a lot cooler and low energy. Likely paves the way for new electrical components that haven’t been discovered yet.It means MRI machines can become dramatically smaller and cheaper. It helps solves one of the big challenges of fusion energy which currently require massive cooling apparatuses to work. The floating aspect is because magnetic fields can’t penetrate super conductors so they basically go around them or through small impurities in them causing them to float. I’m not sure specific applications of this other than it looks cool but it probably has some that exist. But the gist is that every electronic device can be rebuilt with superconductors and be dramatically more efficient, including the possibility of electric planes and shipping tankers.

NY times got a video of the original samplehttps://twitter.com/floates0x/status/1687190672280096768?s=20I still think it’s just magnetism. They could show them flipping the magnet to prove otherwise but we’ll see
8/3/2023 4:09:27 PM
This is interesting. New work from a Chinese lab showing essentially the same magnetic properties as the original paper, and with behavior similar to a superconductor. They haven’t done resistance measurements yet.https://twitter.com/tjmlab/status/1687264268348194817?s=20
8/3/2023 11:23:45 PM
Also another Korean institute has the actual sample and they’re still analyzing it and will be doing so for 6 months, and the original researchers are standing by the claim of superconducting at room temperaturehttps://twitter.com/floates0x/status/1687310111973457920?s=20So doesn’t seem like we’re going to have conclusive proof for a while, unless other researchers release their data.Regardless they don’t have any pure samples bigger than a dime, so probably going to be another year of people refining the process. Then another year at least of finding better compositions and then manufacturers can scale it up for industrial use

Here's the raw form if anyone is curious:

This isn’t as threadworthy as you seem to think it is
8/4/2023 2:36:45 AM
^^Looks like a piece of crap encased in ice that someone shattered on the ground.

First American reproduction https://twitter.com/andrewmccalip/status/1687405505604734978?s=20^^ room temp superconductors is probably gonna win the Nobel prize if it’s real, and literally change the world [Edited on August 4, 2023 at 9:56 AM. Reason : ]

So how toxic is this going to turn out to be?
8/4/2023 2:35:19 PM
It has lead but just states still have lead pipes carrying water, so I guess average toxic
8/4/2023 5:14:17 PM
Not legit. Some weird magnet
8/8/2023 4:12:08 PM
Suck it, China!

It was just a prank, bro!
