Let's first acknowledge that "dying" is just a word for a phenomenon we don't even understand in the context of an individual's experience. It describes what the rest of us perceive.

For the dead individual, yeah, I think dying is just it for their subjective experience. I believe that consciousness is an emergent phenomenon of our vital processes, and when those processes stop, so does that phenomenon. It's got to be like cutting power while the stereo's playing. The music stops.

The best evidence I have of this is the fact that every atom in our bodies was created during the Big Bang. Do you remember anything from the (give or take) 13.8 billion years your atoms were kicking around prior to birth? I sure don't. Yet every bit of the physical material that makes me up has technically been around.

The difference is that it wasn't in the particular arrangement that gave rise to me as a living person until recently. Then consciousness began, and so my subjective experience as an individual.

When my physical arrangement changes in a way that no longer supports consciousness, I figure all these atoms go right back to whatever they were doing for 13.8 billion years before. That very likely might include being parts of other conscious beings for all I know.

I am not my atoms. I'm just the music they're playing. Someday, that music will stop.

We definitely become worm food if buried. I wish I could get cremated ashes mixed with soil to see how good a plant would turn out.

You want ashes? I can get you a ashes, believe me. There are ways, dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. I'll get you ashes by this afternoon--mixed with soil.

I'm still p sure our brains are going to trick us into believing we're having an afterlife, as our perception of time will move infinitely slowly as our neurons are firing rapidly

or something :3

There you go. I think I read on Reddit that it costs $7,000 to get started as plant food.
