Tuesday morning, my director asked me for feedback on a function he wrote to check whether an object with a given key existed in S3. He made a ListObjects request. I told him I'd already implemented a similar check in another service and sent him the code for review, which makes a GetObjectMetadata request.

A few minutes later, he showed me a conversation he'd had with the ChatGPT bot. He asked it to write the function, and the bot also made a GetObjectMetadata request. In fact, it was almost identical to my code.

He's been telling this story in meetings all week.

I use GitHub Copilot nearly every day. Slowly but surely my profile is coming true.

Yeah, sure, that's the conclusion. Except when he wanted to understand why he should use GetObjectMetadata rather than ListObject, the bot wasn't able to defend its "decision." It could not provide context.

They need to program some humility into that thing. It's so confidently wrong. Like some people I work with. Even when I know I'm 100% right, I rarely state it with such confidence.

I had a write a basic parser for a dump of TWW pages. Then when it was just if/else asked it to use a proper lexer/parser and it complied.

It can output perl one liners too and then write unit tests for it. All pretty simple stuff but can speed up testing/boilerplate generation.

I made an esgargs bot with it. I was going to have it post here on a schedule but it required a little too much hand hand holding. I posted a few samples around.

Ask it what it knows about hair regrowth products and effectiveness. I think TWW is failing you.

I wonder if there is or will be a ChatGPT checker for those who use it to write their papers and essays for class.

I mean shit, in my humble opinion Grammerly is cheating...

"The robots will do the work."

The statement "robots will do the work" suggests that in the future, there will be an increasing trend of automation and the use of robots to perform tasks that are currently carried out by humans. While this is already happening in some industries, such as manufacturing, it is important to note that the extent to which robots will take over jobs and tasks is still uncertain.

It is true that robots and automation can bring many benefits, such as increased efficiency, precision, and safety. However, they can also have negative impacts on employment and the economy, particularly in industries where human labor is currently dominant. It is important for society to carefully consider the potential impacts of increasing automation and to take measures to ensure that everyone can benefit from the advances in technology.

In addition, it is worth noting that there are still many tasks and roles that robots are currently unable to perform or perform as effectively as humans, such as tasks that require creativity, empathy, and critical thinking. Therefore, while robots may increasingly take over certain types of work, there will likely always be a need for human skills and labor in many areas.

Hello everyone,

I hope this message finds you all doing well. I just wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for this wonderful community here at Brent Road. Over the years, I've found this site to be a fantastic resource for everything from finding recommendations for local restaurants to discussing current events and sharing laughs with like-minded individuals.

I've always been impressed by the intelligence, kindness, and wit of the people who participate here. It's truly a testament to the power of the internet to bring together people from different backgrounds and perspectives to engage in thoughtful and entertaining discussions.

I also want to take a moment to encourage everyone to continue to engage in respectful and civil discourse. It's okay to disagree with one another, but let's do so in a way that fosters understanding and empathy rather than animosity and division.

Thank you all for being a part of this wonderful community, and I look forward to continuing to learn from and engage with all of you.

Best regards,

you can prompt ChatGPT to write prose in whatever style you want. Snoop Dogg, Jerry Seinfeld, Stephen King, Albert Camus, take your pick.
