Packbackers website down, godaddy wants like 5800 bucks to have it. The second website had hats but most weren’t fitted and the rest were almost gone with very few sizes left

I've made a bunch of stuff over the years, but it was mostly giveaway and I don't have a great way of distributing it, but we will be at Dix for 4th of July handing out some of our previous "vintage" homecoming shirts. The best part about those was that the years corresponded with our great streak of qb's for a while with 16, 17, 18

I've never bought from these guys, but their stuff looks to be the highest quality or premium and seems to be pretty expensive.

I'm Creative Director of University Communications, but I'm not the Director of Trademark and Licensing, a sister organization to mine. We are not necessarily a monolith in our decision-making. But we still collaborate. And of course, Athletics is a whole 'nother thing.

The University Hallmark is the current solution to an issue that needed to be resolved in that the Chancellor's office reserved the seal in its entirety - COMBINED with the old shirts needing to be more in-line with the mid-century academic brand.

Duke is Gothic old-world wannabees, UNC is Serif classic marble pillars academia, NC State is San-Serif research enterprise modernist. Occasionally, we dab into the Slab-Serif because we looooove to talk quotes, numbers and facts.

I understand. It's not new hate for it. I've heard it. I hate the diamond logo with every fiber of my soul, so I get it. My own work gets sent back to me all the time. And so it goes.

{That said, we sold a fuck ton of t-shirts after we switched.}

We're trying to work on avenues with lots of people to do some different and hopefully much more emotional and innovative things with the brand. We've had some pretty significant leadership changes recently and they seem to value creativity. The basketball didn't hurt, either.

There's a million other reasons that I can load up, but the most simple is that from a brand perspective, "NSC" doesn't mean anything to anyone who doesn't know what it already is. Monograms are also completely confusing from a left to right order standpoint. We're not "North State Carolina."

It's a logo firmly rooted in nostalgia, and most of the time when you drill in, it turns into a BBQ argument, meaning it gets emotional. It also doesn't stylistically fit with anything going on these days in any house of the brand.

I know the brand stuff drives fans and alumni (I personally dislike the current Tuffy), but it’s hard to overstate how helpful a fairly locked-down, easy to follow brand is for employees. I remember the bad old days where everyone on campus with MS Paint thought they were a graphic designer.

But yeah anyways, i think the university hallmark could be fine in certain use situations but I really dislike the complete removal of the seal from commercial products. The hallmark is a poor replacement for it in that regard. I also agree that the clouds make it worse. I guess you didn't want a bunch of empty space, but yeah they aren't it.

I understand why they modernized Tuffy but i think they made one big mistake - they should have kept the hat with NCSU instead of replacing it with NC STATE. It's just too many letters for that space. I also know the reasoning for that was a push towards solely branding as NC State, but it just looks bad. If they want to put NC State on the hat, it needs to be a bigger hat. Like say a top hat...

I've been chomping at the bit since Covid to do it and we've finally been allowed to get in there and chop wood on it properly.

When we launched, we were standout in higher-ed for branding (and tbh STILL are... y'all don't know how much better we are organized than most universities, especially UNC, {they just have Nike/Jordan doing all their brand lifting at the forsaking of their academics}) and I'd like to push the limits to what we can do again.

This is far more than a logo discussion and incorporates ideas of sound and 4th dimensionality/time when it comes to design and narrative.

The amount of non-qualified people empowered to write/design/video/social is still astronomical, but our academic brand standards have at least codified and standardized the colleges across the board. It was absolutely a crazy quilt in the 00s.

Would you trust someone without any training to do your electrical work or open heart surgery? No, you wouldn't. But for some reason people treat communications like anybody can do it just cause they have eyes and can use a computer.

Again, this feels like an emotional response based on affinity for NCSU and the tradition that it was always in his hat. Would I do everything that's been done with that in the exact way personally? Not at all, but the NCSU had to go. Style guides are in place to create uniformity across the brand. At NC State, we follow AP Style. Many people don't like it, because they love the Oxford comma, but a style guide removes the emotion out of it and says simply, "this is the rule." And the rule at NC State (backed by continual data) for probably about 10-15 years now (excluding the insanity that is urls,) is that we do not use NCSU.

Even the "NCSU Libraries" eventually became the NC State University Libraries. And don't y'all think that there weren't some tug-o-wars on that one.

Remember "This is Our State?" I advised in the deepest possible way to not go down that route, because it would pull everything down if the football team went into the hole again. And eventually ECU pwnt the F out of the whole campaign with a single billboard.

There's actually an unreleased, more slobbarish, vector wolf that I think is the frigging BEST THING EVER, but that is in a deep, deep locked box buried under the Belltower.

Hell, I'd love to have that instead of the Tuffy head.

But as someone been shoving tiny type inside of mascot clothing on my own time for almost three decades (got here in 1995,) I can't totally get on board that it's "too many letters," especially when the NC State brick reduces down fairly tiny with no issue.

Got everything i wanted to get except a white fitted hat. Red and white had a lot of normal sizes out of stock, outfitters has no mostly white fitted hats
