I know, I know. MLS. But it's pretty cool we have real professional soccer in the state. We set a single game attendance record for the MLS with 74k+ (basically packing out Bank of America stadium). I was at the game and the atmosphere was pretty awesome. The team isn't very good, but it's new and they already have a following.[Edited on March 7, 2022 at 9:27 AM. Reason : d]

The atmosphere was great on TV, especially the National Anthem when the sound went out on the on Field Mic. They aren't very good and this being the South once the newness wears off if they aren't good the crowd will not be there. They will have their ultras but it will be in the 20K range if they don't produce good results. That said not a surprise the home team is lousy for that owner and that stadium, especially this year.
3/7/2022 2:11:47 PM
^ I'm sure they won't sniff 74k again this season, but I think the plan is to close off the upper bowl and only sell lower tickets. They have already sold more season tickets than Atlanta did (previous single game attendance record) their first year and they have the best attendance in the league--albeit also at a huge stadium.

The National Anthem thing was super cool -- pretty much an instant classic story for the team for years to come.Still a bit bitter there's a soccer team here before MLB. Pretty much cements the fact that there'll just about never be an MLB team in NC. But obviously soccer is trending in the right direction in terms of popularity while baseball has been suffering, so no surprise. Also kinda hate the changes they had to do to BoA to get the team. Turf field and the goofy bunker seats taking up actual useful seating in prime positions. It's all just a shtick for Tepper to eventually downsize BoA into a soccer-only stadium and get the Panthers their own SB eligible stadium in the next 10 or so years. Which I hate cause I love BoA and its classic feel. It's been taken care of and renovated nicely, the only "problem" is it's outdoors. Which I suppose is another rant this thread doesn't need.I'll get off my soapbox now. Happy for the team, wish them luck in the future. Kind of like you (^^) said, I hope they don't start like the Hornets -- lead the league in attendance their first few years til the team falls flat, then attendance plummets.
3/7/2022 2:57:48 PM
Hell yeah go Charlotte Fart Club!I love the Allies!]
3/7/2022 3:02:15 PM
I'm still torn on the whole thing. Even though I get it, Charlotte getting the team over Raleigh still makes me mad. Maybe I'll come around. Charlotte is so far away it still doesn't feel like a home team. That's why I didn't switch to the Panthers when they formed. Living in Henderson, Washington was just as close to me as Charlotte. If the Panthers were in Raleigh, I likely would have switched.
3/7/2022 3:40:59 PM
^The problem is MLS has pretty much said they will only award a franchise to towns with a downtown stadium surrounded by nightlife. Charlotte already had one. Raleigh had to build one and a lot of people weren't on board with that idea. It was the right move by MLS.
3/8/2022 9:44:34 AM
First win last night
3/20/2022 11:59:04 AM
And another 2-0 loss tonight. Not the best start, but I'm sure they'll get things rolling at some point.
4/3/2022 12:53:32 AM
What makes you so sure?
4/3/2022 1:42:54 PM
^because even the worst franchises make the playoffs in pro sports every now and then
4/3/2022 7:25:22 PM
^^ Also because we aren't even at the back of the pack at this point--our first season. We are mid table and lost to the best team in the league in a competitive match. Having watched a few of our games, we aren't the most talented, but I like the coach and it seems like we are well organized and get the best out of what we have.
4/4/2022 2:08:44 PM
A well organized team owned by David Tepper!?
4/4/2022 2:18:19 PM
how are the allies playing? i haven't watched a match yet.
4/4/2022 2:35:16 PM
Fired the coach 1 game out of the playoffs and playing well. Apparently due to disagreements with the way they wanted to build the team. Most of the media who cover the league consider the guy in the running for coach of the year. Good ol' Tepper.
5/31/2022 6:53:18 PM
Borrego fired, this dude fired, and Rhule is still coaching

Come one Allies start one of those effective Glazers ManU type protests. Tepper Out

^ love this part
6/14/2022 3:32:43 PM
I'm glad to see MLS has a long term deal. From what I heard there will be no blackouts for your local team like all sports leagues do now. Hopefully Charlotte remains over the air and never signs on with regional networks. I live close to a tower and had a great signal with my HD antenna last night.
6/26/2022 8:54:28 AM
This thread is kind of quiet for just beating Chelsea in an international friendly.
7/21/2022 7:21:46 PM
that's cause Chelsea is weak, so it wasn't a surprise to anyone (other than the Charlotte FC radio announcer)
7/21/2022 7:40:04 PM
Yeah Allies rule
7/21/2022 8:55:13 PM
They won Champions League, Super Cup, and FIFA Club Cup last year, so yeah, pretty trash when compared to a luminary like an inaugural Charlotte MLS team.
7/21/2022 11:17:56 PM
MLS > UEFA
7/21/2022 11:25:15 PM
Oh, right. I forgot that.
7/21/2022 11:27:28 PM
Goddamn that was an asswhooping
7/24/2022 12:46:43 AM
Great start last night with the goal 25 seconds in, but they have to get better on defense. They aren't going to win, if they keep giving up 3+ goals a game.
8/7/2022 10:35:21 PM
Finally, an away win!
8/17/2022 10:05:49 PM
Good win
8/17/2022 10:24:43 PM
3pts out of the playoffs with 3 games left.Philadelphia (1st in East) at homeColumbus (7th in East) at homeNY Red Bulls (3rd in East) awayI don’t see more than 4 points coming from these three matches. So we will likely need some significant help.
9/18/2022 12:04:18 PM
Well Daniel Rios doesn’t want to miss the playoffs. Jesus
10/2/2022 10:14:04 PM
Well that was entertaining, but the 2-2 draw ended their playoff hopes.
10/5/2022 9:05:04 PM
Awful start to year 2 so far. I hope they get better, but I'm not optimistic.
4/9/2023 4:04:51 PM
Boo Charlotte Fart Club Allies suck
4/9/2023 5:09:33 PM
They actually fit in perfect with the Hornets and Panthers.
4/9/2023 8:58:23 PM
WOW! Butter fingers by the CFC GK! CFC 2 COL 2
4/15/2023 9:45:13 PM
Nice come from behind 2-1 win vs Chicago tonight!
5/17/2023 10:13:43 PM
Anyone else pumped about the chance to see Messi play a league match in NC?
6/7/2023 4:10:30 PM
No.

6/7/2023 9:23:29 PM

7/21/2023 2:33:13 PM
breathtakingly stupid
7/21/2023 2:38:56 PM
hopefully some of the FC folks/players will start talking shit about the turf, if they aren't alreadyPanthers players have been fairly vocal about hating ityou'd think somebody with Tepper's financial resources could fucking figure out how to make grass work between the two teams and his insistence on it being a concert venue as well
7/21/2023 4:06:26 PM
I think it's just rumors that Messi won't play on turf. There are multiple teams with turf fields in MLS.
7/22/2023 12:32:33 PM
He's literally never played a game on turf.Seriously doubt he's going to start during his retirement tour.
7/22/2023 3:40:15 PM
Win tonight and they play him Friday. Last nights free kick was sick
