I also just learned yesterday that Heather Bresch is his daughter. If the name sounds familiar, she presided over Mylan as CEO during the height of the EpiPen price-gouging scandal. In other words, a real piece of work. . .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mylan

Is this really surprising?
12/20/2021 1:07:45 PM
I’m not surprised

The coal miners union has come out and said they want him to support the bill, so that may be enough to pressure him to do so.
12/21/2021 2:36:14 PM
Don't count on it. He's already "done everything humanly possible" and he just can't get there.
12/21/2021 5:20:54 PM
So that means if he eventually can get there, he's admitting to being non-human.

Bttt

Republicans: The Democrats are the Party of Elites. Also Republicans: How dare the Democrats attempt to raise taxes on the über wealthy!
7/15/2022 2:54:26 AM
This guy sucks.
7/15/2022 6:50:16 PM
He got the COVID.
7/25/2022 12:03:13 PM
Credible as fuck.
7/28/2022 12:22:40 PM
COVID affected his brain.
7/28/2022 1:58:42 PM
I only read an article and didn't find a "catch" so I'll give a tentative +1Id love to know what changed
7/28/2022 3:01:40 PM
GOP said CHIPS act was dead unless BBB was off the table. Manchin had signaled that BBB was dead, so CHIPS just passed the Senate. As soon as that happened, Manchin put out a statement saying him and Schumer had worked out the Inflation Reduction Act which is essentially BBB. It includes a bunch of good shit like corporate minimum tax, 360 billion for climate change, more money for IRS enforcement, etcAssuming Manchin doesn't pull his support of his own bill, he basically pulled one over on McConnell and this is the smartest legislative maneuver the Dems have done in decades.
7/28/2022 3:12:52 PM
The timing on all this really suggests nothing changed and that it was all theater to fool the Republicans. Which is honestly pretty amazing.
7/28/2022 3:14:48 PM
Thanks for that explanation
7/28/2022 3:15:47 PM
LOLs!
7/28/2022 4:26:47 PM
Maaan... I almost don't believe that this was actually a game Dems played on Republicans. I think the timing is coincidental but that's all. Dems just.. ugh.. they just aren't that savvy. I'm way more inclined to believe the coincidence, however eerily timed, rather than Dems had a strong strategic play that worked. It's just not how they operate, unfortunately.
7/29/2022 11:53:11 AM
I mean releasing significant legislation the same day as thr votes are in for CHIPs is pretty telling.
7/29/2022 12:39:08 PM
^^lol yeah
7/29/2022 2:28:13 PM
^^ I disagree. They could have as easily waited a day or two days before announcing it. Announcing it the same day would serve no purpose other than to rub the agreement into the face of the republicans. I find it more plausible that the democrats didn't even consider the optics (good or bad) and announced as soon as an agreement was released, so it would be less likely to fall apart. I've literally seen nothing from the democrats to suggest that they'd be capable of pulling off such an in-your-face strategic move like this.
7/29/2022 3:42:13 PM
The catch
8/1/2022 7:03:12 PM
^both of those are good things that would advance energy independence during the energy transition.
8/1/2022 10:09:18 PM
This bill isn't perfect but it a drastic improvement over current policies. NYT estimates it would double the reduction in our emissions vs current. It would be a tragedy not to take this win.
8/2/2022 12:52:04 PM
Can be a win while not being a 4d chess move. Just typical backroom dealing. Better than him voting no but sucks they have to give him anything.
8/2/2022 2:06:37 PM
Lol okay.
8/2/2022 2:22:35 PM
Lol
8/2/2022 2:24:24 PM
LOL
8/7/2022 9:07:49 AM
Ha
8/7/2022 10:17:30 PM
Manchin gets some credibility because he’s out on fox shilling and defending this thing very competently. The solar subsidies are big time too

Weird to quote then bring a completely separate argument (presumably offline?)As the farthest left remaining poster (I think) is a hope he serves for another 40 year, or until WV swings left for some reason, whichever comes first. He's a necessary evil but I'd prefer to have a couple more D senators to get him out of the negotiation loop.
8/8/2022 12:28:25 AM
I don't think it's a separate argument at all.Sorta like I don't--and don't think that you should--view him as a necessary evil, but a miraculous fluke.
8/10/2022 5:09:28 PM
He's both

If only Republicans were as willing to criticize their party leadership as old Coal Joe!This is not a compliment to him, but a criticism of Republicans.
