I thought it was great mindless entertainment.

Just finished watching it, I’m definitely not understanding a lot of the negative reviews I’ve read. Don’t get me wrong, it is not a great movie, but IMO it is the most entertaining of the new Godzilla series.

It is a movie about giant monsters fighting each other so I wasn't expecting Schindler's List in terms of plot and character development. It was entertaining for what it was trying to be.That being said, I thought the ending was predictable as soon as MechaGodzilla was revealed. I half expected King Kong to say "Martha" then Godzilla to say "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!?" when they were roaring in each other's faces.

^Yeah, the 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' seemed an obvious ploy to avoid the antagonize one "side" conundrum. During the "roar off," I couldn't help but think of Kong with Clint Eastwood's voice from The Enforcer: "Your mouthwash ain't mak'n it." I also thought it might have been interesting (and a short movie) had Godzilla blasted a tunnel down to Hollow Earth from somewhere deep in the ocean. Oops. Maybe a "How it Should have Ended" episode?

Action sequences were fine.I just hate that the catalyst is the evil corporation building a secret mechanical Godzilla which is the reason he attacks in the first place. How about just don't build it and we are all good. I get it, you aren't tuning into a movie like this for the terrific writing and expect plenty of plot holes. But the "turns out it was actually the corporation that is evil and the bad guy" setup is just so old. Then of course Kong and Godzilla have to ultimately work together to save themselves and man-kind, give each other a nod and a wink and drift into the sunset. I'm going to write a movie where it turns out the giant corporation is actually the good guy.

People want to believe corporations are evil. That idea won't be going away anytime soon in movies.I'm sure there are movies where big companies were presented in a positive light, but right now all that's coming to me are even corporations. From robocop, to cyberdyne, and (lol) Umbrella.

it's usually evil corporation, some un-natural/rogue counter part, or aliens invading.

I watched it out of curiosity this past weekend. The fights were pretty cool, particularly the Hong Kong fight. The Hollow Earth stuff made me curious about the other MonsterVerse films, so I actually went back and watched them (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters) as well. All very different films with strong directorial voices! I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't care for plot of Godzilla: King of the Monsters very much nor that of Godzilla vs. Kong, but overall, they were all much better than I expected.

So it's been a while since I've seen any of the other monsterverse movies, but why doesn't Godzilla ever go to Skull Island to fight Kong? Any time any monster is doing stuff, Godzilla appears to know about it immediately and knows exactly where the monster is. What is special about Skull Island that blocks this?

I mean, it is a completely ridiculous movie in almost every aspect. But I found it more watchable and entertaining than most the rest in this series.
