Facebook was OK when it was THE Facebook and .edu. Didn't even used to be able to cross university lines.

moved to Asheville and finished my degree
moved to NYC and went to grad school
moved back to Raleigh and got married to Greylin
started a career at a big open source software company
bunch of other stuff too

that ate up a decade of my life

I still only use Facebook for Groups. I have numerous shared interest groups that are very active and a few that I run. These are great and as long as you filter out politics on groups that are not related to it I think it is a great use for Facebook. But aside from that and posting pics of the kids for family, fuck the rest of it.
