6/17/2020 10:43:36 PM
it's free marketing
6/17/2020 10:47:07 PM
i agree, it's more of a marketing opportunity. makes the company look like they're doing a noble thing, pivoting at a point of societal pressure. kinda reeks of BS though. Maybe not the Land-O-Lakes girl though.
6/17/2020 10:49:35 PM
ok well I hadn't thought of thaton first thought, I was thinking it would ultimately make them lose business

I stopped buying artificially flavored syrup like 10 years ago, but I def avoided the aunt Jemima because it became something people used in racist jokes too much

My friends and I got super high once back in HS and decided to do a blind taste test between Mrs. Butterworth and Aunt Jamima. We all agreed that Mrs. Butterworth was more buttery, but then my friend’s brother whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said "Fresh" and it had dice in the mirror. If anything, I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, "Nah, forget it"– "Yo, home to Bel-Air"
6/17/2020 11:56:04 PM
You went for the Fresh Prince in the second fucking sentence. That is the premature ejaculation of shitposts.

Well since all of these minorities are getting removed from product labels I guess all that will be left is white people (Mr. Clean, Brawny). So how long until everyone gets offended that there are no black people on labels?GNSP
6/18/2020 5:28:59 PM
this fuckin guy i swear
6/18/2020 5:31:18 PM
I'm offended by that Brawny guy's mustache. I'm offended that Mr. Clean products imply that it takes a muscular build to clean house.
6/18/2020 5:39:34 PM
So I just looked it up. The 2020 Gerber baby is a black female. Does that make Gerber all inclusive, or prejudice towards women and black people?
6/18/2020 5:41:57 PM
^^ do you have a problem with the decision to discontinue the Aunt Jemima brand?
6/18/2020 6:38:16 PM
Brawny and Mr. Clean are LGBT icons.
6/18/2020 6:40:55 PM

I haven’t researched all the origins of every single brand that is changing or rebranding its logo. But reading just a little about Aunt Jemima and the Cream of Wheat guy make it pretty obvious that those had very racist origins. I can’t imagine defending it. The faux outrage over these companies acknowledging the racist history of their logos/mascots/etc is bizarre to me. Also...are people actually upset that a brand is changing its logo or name? People suddenly have a really strong attachment to a maple syrup name...
6/18/2020 9:00:14 PM
It's almost as if they're not just names.
6/18/2020 9:49:38 PM

^Literally no one cares. It's not even real maple syrup. It is surprising because it's not even remotely racist...but it's the big thing now to pander to whole BLM movement.
6/21/2020 11:14:04 PM
How is it pandering? How is the representation of a black woman whose origin is from a minstrel show that depicted the subjugation of blacks as simple minded house servants not even remotely racist?
