I would like to publically admit that it was just a couple of weeks ago that I realized why he named all those towns in his song.

I was so excited when he said Newport cause I was like, THAT'S WHERE I'M FROM!

Then I was sitting here listening to the song a couple of weeks ago and I said to my husband, "I wonder why he said the name of all of those towns, like of all the towns why did he say Newport?"

He was like "Cause he's naming all the prisons." I looked it up...

BanjoMan, I own a real estate company with offices in Raleigh and at the coast. I have an agent that lives in and focuses on the Mebane area. I'd be happy to connect you with him if you'd like some insight on the area and help buying. Text if I can help 919-608-2760. Good luck!

I grew up mostly in Albemarle and Blowing Rock. Never heard of it. Is it a real shithole like Jacksonville?

might be a good opportunity there. I thought about moving to Chapel Hill and then commuting every day, but then I'd have to drive and live on 40. Just wondering if anybody was familiar with the area and could help me figure out if it'd be a nice place to live.

Just came to my head based on its size and relative status as a fun, somewhat hippy town. I don't see how Mebane could be compared to something like Asheville or Fayetnam.

I'm not looking it up, but I can definitely tell you there is no prison in Statesvill so that's definitely not true.

Mebane is a stones throw from Graham. Graham is home to a killer little Mexican restaurant named La Fiesta.

^^^^Yea Halifax doesn't have one either. Caledonia is the closest one and that one is in Tillery, which was also named. If you add County jails though Halifax and Statesville both have those.

On a serious note about Mebane, its a nice small town with quick and easy access to both the Triangle and Triad. Due to that there is a lot of blue collar shipping/warehouse businesses and the people that work at those. The Mebane Wal-Mart is definitely more redneck than the one just south of Chapel Hill. It has a cute little historic downtown and a lot of traffic and development out near the Tanger Outlet Mall and the interstate. Property prices are fairly affordable but be aware that taxes are cheaper on the Alamance side than the Orange County side. We have a couple friends that live up there and considered it too, but I like the schools and lifestyle around Chapel Hill and Carrboro more even if property is a lot more expensive here.

Oh and Mebane has a La Fiesta as well. Not too shabby although I've heard Catrinas Tequila and Taco Bar in Mebane is better. Never been myself but a Hispanic coworker gave it rave reviews.

^^^Caledonia/Tillery is in Halifax

(so yes, sounds like he's being redundant in naming Tillery and Halifax... although I think Caledonia Correctional Facility and Tillery Correctional Facility are technically separate facilities, even though they're within a few thousand feet of each other. Maybe he didn't want to spend 4 syllables on Caledonia instead of 3 on Halifax)

It looks like this is going to happen, although I don't want to jinx it just yet. So, in terms of family I still have cousins that live in Cary and Chapel Hill, and I could stay with them for a bit until I get my own place.

However, I am in a huge rush to live on my own again, so could anybody give me tips on finding a room or efficiency in Mebane that I could get for like a 6 month lease? The last time I looked for a place in the US it was year 2011.

^ Why so sad??

I just got the official offer and need to be there in June. Is craigslist still a thing for finding quick and cheap lodging? Or should I just crash with my cousin in cary or chapel hill for 4 months?

Arrowhead Apartments are maybe a year old. Reviews are pretty fantastic though and it has a pond for fishing.
Alexander Point is probably about five years old. Looks nice when I've been by but never needed to check it out.
Carden Place was really nice and brand new when we were looking up that way a decade ago.
Spring Forest at Deerfield was another one that was alright
Deerfield Crossing was alright.
119 South didn't even exist a decade ago so no clue but looks nice enough.
Stonebrook had 2-story 3BR units and were the only place in Mebane with ones like that.
Keystone at Mebane Oaks I think was under construction at the time.
Fieldstone was pretty good and I think they have a salt water pool if I remember right.
Ashbury Square was just on the east end of town and seemed nice as well.
Mebane Downs is an old shit hole.
Oakwood was a shit hole too I thought.

Might be missing a couple but we checked most of them out a decade back. Should be able to find something in there.

Yeah I've been abroad and yes I liked it. But I grew up in Stanly county and know of graveyards full of ancestors that died in the civil war. There's something to be said about the culture of nc that can't be found anywhere else in the world. If you don't like it then, that's just your opinion. I respect that.

I lived at Ashbury Sq. 1 bedroom was nice, but kinda cramped. 2nd floor is weird cause you walk in and have stairs that lead to living area. Kitchen dreadfully small. And no door to bedroom, almost a studio. Balcony is nice and big though. On website says $740, I paid 575 in 2014. Would put you a little closer to CH than living at exit 153/154. It is on orange co side of mebane. Walking distance to some bar/bbq place that was decent and a valero. When I left it appeared to be a place that ppl from Durham kept moving to.

Get a place in Burlington instead. Then you can drop in and eat pork brains at Zack’s downtown for breakfast.

The job is really sweet. I like Mebane, but it reminds me a lot of cary.
