Chinese virus
3/29/2020 12:53:23 AM
I hate almost everything that Trump says and does, but I actually don't have a problem with him calling it the Chinese Virus. China should rightfully be shamed for the conditions that allowed this predictable and predicted outcome to be unleashed on the world. I don't want them to be able to skirt responsibility like normal.
3/29/2020 7:28:59 AM
^ more than that (traditions are hard to erase [eating habits/markets]), they should be shamed for suppressing the truth for 1-1.5 months and punishing their own doctors/whistleblowers who tried to warn the world about the virus, hence letting it spread.
3/29/2020 8:37:37 AM
Yes, that too.I mean, the US response has been abysmal. There's no excuse for that. However, the fact that we're in a position of having to respond at all is what I take issue with. Trump's non-PC use of the term "Chinese Virus" at least makes it less likely the world will conveniently forget its origins.
3/29/2020 9:10:55 AM
^lol, I mean, sure, don’t forget where it came from. But other parts of the world just do shit differently. We all have to accept that and live with the consequences and the benefits that brings. That means that when something arises from the developing world that wouldn’t From the developed world, strong nations have to respond with the tools we have as a benefit of their development. We have failed miserably at that all over the map. The people on the ground are doing monumental work but the leadership at the top looks ridiculous.

3/29/2020 10:25:12 AM
^^I disagree that we just have to accept it. Significant international pressure should be applied to force an end to practices that are essentially universally agreed to pose a danger to global health. Shit happens, but it happens a lot more when you operate irresponsibly.

Also, some of yall don't seem to understand that the reason it's totally inapproriate for the President of the United Stated to continually call it the "Chines Virus" is because to some people, especially his cult-like followers, it demonizes everyday asians who have nothing to do with this, and encourages them to direct their anxiety/anger towards those asains (even if they're not from China, they don't know the difference). And it's leading to anger and even violence against asians here in America and elsewhere.(it's not because "it started in China so it's fine to call it a Chinese Virus")

Sincerely,The Spanish Flu
3/29/2020 2:21:08 PM
Didn’t I read somewhere that the name “Spanish Flu” was literally used as propaganda for the allies in WWI?We know, pretty much as an ironclad fact that COVID-19 originated in China at least.
3/29/2020 2:23:53 PM
Yes, it didn't originate in Spain, they just reported on it first.
