there was a replay going around (maybe in the season thread) that shows DJ pulling or hitting the UVa guy's injured finger. and it looked fairly intentional. my issue is, the UVa dude should've probably been ejected for taking a swing.

Fuck refs. Fuck UNC.

Refs make college basketball damn near unwatchable at times. Worse than any other sport. Even in a game that is fairly officiated, too many fouls and disruptions just totally ruins the product. If refs are gonna have a tight whistle then college players should get 6 fouls. The sport and fan experience suffers when there’s a whistle every time down court. When one team scores nearly 50% of their points from FTs…that’s just not really enjoyable for anybody but the winning team.

Not to mention the utter lack of consistency from game to game, half to half, and from team to team. Refs are totally inconsistent and generally bad at their job.

It’s hilarious how you can prepare for a team all week and then that Gameplan goes out the window completely when you realize you have to change everything to match how the refs decide to call a game.

There's got to be some type of agreement in place between refs and the NCAA to keep games close. You don't see a lot of blowouts these days because the refs either call too close or let them play aggressively. Whatever works. They kill big runs and alter momentum in a lot of games that you used to not see. It's probably advertisers paying big money to keep fans engaged. If your team is down 20 points you'll turn the game off, but if they keep the spread around 10 points or less, you'll keep watching.

I don’t usually visit IPS but I saw this get shared on Twitter and holy shit we really couldn’t buy a foul call. I disagree with Henderson on a few of the calls/no calls (he was a bit red-tinted on a few of them Imo) but overall several good examples of awful officiating. There’s no conspiracy. Refs just really really suck at their job and did an awful job with consistency in this game.

I don’t remember the timing of it Henderson leaving PP to start IPS. But I don’t think I’ve been to PP since around 2016 (obvious reasons). Never really spent any time at all on IPS. It might be a hellhole like PP, I don’t know.

Agree from that angle doesn’t look like much. I have noticed over the last several games it seems like Dowouna is trying to not foul but every time his guy goes to the basket he immediately gets called for the foul. The worst was the Girard flop when Morsell was driving.

Refs have to stop rewarding bad/lazy defense. Maybe it requires re-writing the rule, I don’t know. But it’s pathetic that this consistently rewarding by the refs. Shit like this makes CBB less enjoyable. Good defense should be rewarded. Move your feet, stay in position, and if a dude runs you over then that’s a foul. If you stop moving so that you’re impeding an offensive player’s momentum while giving no actual defensive effort, you flop and cause the offensive player to fall down also…that’s bad defense, that ruins the flow of the game.

This level of defensive effort seems counter to the spirit of the game, Imo. It’s cheap. It rewards laziness. It gives unathletic and slower players a benefit
