Guess we need a new thread....This guy may be our new OChttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Beck_(American_football,_born_1966)https://247sports.com/Article/NC-State-football-offensive-coordinator-Tim-Beck-hire-Texas-Longhorns-Tom-Herman-141364552/

Has to be done in fairness to Harrison.
12/31/2019 11:57:47 AM
i don't have a strong opinion of Beck but i can get on board with him
12/31/2019 11:59:50 AM
I know nothing about Tim Beck but Texas, Ohio State, and Nebraska fans appear to universally hate him. Not a great sign.
12/31/2019 12:37:21 PM
247 ranks him as the #5 recruiter in the nation. So that’s good.
12/31/2019 12:38:59 PM
^^Those fanbases make us look sane. This is a crazy good hire for a school of our status.
12/31/2019 12:41:46 PM
^ You're right, I should wait to irrationally judge him after the first drive of our spring game. But in all seriousness, I'm optimistic. Advanced metrics don't hate him.

I dont think either our new DC or OC has the highest possible upside of any hire we could've made, but they're both competent, proven P5 coaches which makes more sense if you've got a head coach on the hot seatBeck sure seems like he needs a QB who can run to execute his offense, which might be the biggest positive for next season given none of the guys on the roster fit that.
12/31/2019 2:12:03 PM
^ and ^^ are both fair responses imo.
12/31/2019 2:26:04 PM
Personally I feel much better about the OC hire than the DC one. Beck is a definite upgrade.
12/31/2019 2:33:39 PM
I'd suggest NOT going to reddit to find logical/rational takes on coaches or former coaches, especially OCs and DCs. Beck is known as an elite recruiter and QB developer. Dude is experienced, has had high ranked offenses at every stop(Nebraska, tOSU, and Texas), and has had various offenses fitting his personnel. I think it's a great hire, plus the name value will only help increase the buzz of our team as right now the positive buzz has basically flat-lined. Only concern I have is moving Roper to the RB coach(assuming Beck takes OC/QB). I know Roper was RB coach at Tennessee for a bit, but if he isn't a great recruiter and him being a "QB guru" didn't work, almost feels like we would be better off moving on. Seems like finding a RB coach and good recruiter wouldn't be too hard.If we land Charley Wiles to replace Kevin Patrick, then I think we definitely improved our staff this off-season.
12/31/2019 8:59:35 PM
I'd suggest not going to Reddit.

Brock Miller graduate transferring.....thank God dude was absolutely awful. No clue why he ever played over Thomas/Wilson/Acceus.
1/7/2020 12:32:49 PM
Transfer Levi Jones will also be available at LB in 2020.
1/7/2020 12:59:16 PM
This is fine. It will have no effect on our 0-3-8 defense which is sure to stop spread offenses.
1/7/2020 1:29:36 PM
Miller was losing snaps to Wilson last year and Jones is going to push for snaps. Hurts from an experience/depth perspective, but he was probably not going to be a starter next year.

Hopefully he coaches them to put 4 guys on it
1/9/2020 12:30:44 PM
^+1I'm not sure what this mindset is about that a collegiate defense can only learn/play one look.Play 4 down linemen when you think they're going to run, and switch to 3 if you need extra pass protection.

We have a fixed amount of threads we can make in a year. It’s only January and we’ve already wasted one.
1/22/2020 2:54:10 PM
Oh great now I can't make a Ty Evans Heisman Watch thread
1/22/2020 2:54:57 PM
We’ll have to nix something else. The Ty Evans Heisman thread is necessary imo
1/22/2020 3:16:35 PM
ok, I'll make a "Which thread should we cut" thread to determine which thread we shouldn't make in order to preserve our thread limit
1/22/2020 3:21:22 PM
But won't it have to be which 2 threads will we cut? In order to account for the thread you are going to make.
1/22/2020 3:32:11 PM
Dad jokes. TWW's got 'em!
1/22/2020 3:49:11 PM
Cmon guys this is the perfect use for the tww pollAlso, feel obligated to post this here now

My bold prediction for the season is that we’ll beat Mississippi State. And we’ll still be confused over which season thread to use when discussing that victory.
1/22/2020 5:13:56 PM
the other thread seems more organic, like "here's the schedule, time for a thread". this one reeks of "i have to be the first to create the 2020 thread, even if it's still 2019"
1/22/2020 5:26:37 PM
i mean if we're going to make a thread for a new season immediately when one is over, someone should go ahead and make a 2021 thread right now.
1/22/2020 5:56:29 PM
^^lol i mean I started the thread when I heard the new OC, but feel free to continue on conversating about "organic thread creation"^#OhShit[Edited on January 22, 2020 at 8:03 PM. Reason : And our season had been done for over a month ]
1/22/2020 8:02:14 PM
Could we please start a new thread to contain all the “which thread is the real thread” discussion so it doesn’t muddy up the discussion of the 2020 season in this thread (and the other 2020 season thread)?
1/22/2020 8:31:18 PM
i think it was BoobsrGr8 / SandSanta who always had to start the basketball thread for the next season before the previous season had even ended. nobody likes "that guy"]
1/22/2020 8:34:04 PM
^^ no need it's clearly my thread.
1/22/2020 9:01:35 PM
Without average qb play we aren't getting to 6 wins.
1/22/2020 9:22:54 PM
Without average qb play we'll be lucky to get more then 3
1/22/2020 9:31:46 PM
Half of me still hopes we address QB as a transfer position. In regards to immediately eligible transfers, KJ Costello's still available but he's out of our league. Chase Brice of Clemson is also available, didn't play a ton there. Lindsey Scott too, but past there I stop recognizing most of their names much.To make the scheduling of the MSST game worse, we scheduled it in the summer of 2014, after a season where they were pretty good (7-6 but 5 ranked losses, all of which were >15) and we went 3-9. So either they were hoping we'd be a cupcake or we were hoping to improve a lot[Edited on January 22, 2020 at 9:41 PM. Reason : forgot word]

1/23/2020 6:47:15 AM
For almost any team, really
1/23/2020 8:22:59 AM
Yup. Unless you’re loaded with talent at every other position (or if you’re an option team) then you need at least average QB play to be an average team.
1/23/2020 8:35:20 AM
Even with an option team, the QB still mostly determines the success.Have to have like the old 10 years ago LSU team level defense and/or a close to Heisman level RB/oline to get out of that loop.
1/23/2020 8:47:02 AM
I guess that was my non-combative way of saying we will suck again. Only State team I remember having moderate success with terrible qb play was the 2005 team with Marcus Stone. Won our bowl game in Charlotte 10-0 vs USF, lol. Stephen Tulloch, Mario Williams, etc on defense. [Edited on January 23, 2020 at 9:15 AM. Reason : add another note]
1/23/2020 9:10:33 AM
It was 14-0, dammit! Give the offense some credit. I have no idea what to expect. It hinges totally on QB play. We have no real reason to be optimistic about QB at this point. But also it’s not unreasonable to hope somebody (especially a younger guy like Leary) shows some improvement. Or there always the grad transfer route. So yeah sure put me down for 6-6
1/23/2020 9:30:13 AM
What are the early reports on Ty Evans? Nobody seems to talk about him.
1/23/2020 10:46:54 AM
He plays qb, I think, for nc state
