Oh, I can't find this topic so I start a new one.

Thanks. I'm out for a while.
10/2/2018 3:20:24 PM
Oh Shit! Its SHOOT!
10/2/2018 4:42:47 PM
rumor mill says no to NC
10/2/2018 5:19:01 PM
I was under the impression that everyone and their brother is assuming DC.
10/3/2018 10:14:22 AM
^ yup[Edited on October 3, 2018 at 10:15 AM. Reason : well, northern VA at least]
10/3/2018 10:15:00 AM
Its gonna be Atlanta
10/3/2018 11:35:52 AM
Why
10/3/2018 11:39:58 AM
It seems like a done deal that Amazon is going to land somewhere west of Dulles on the silver line extension. That area is littered with data centers already.
10/3/2018 11:40:26 AM
Then I'm moving to DC. See you guys in DC then!
10/3/2018 11:49:56 AM
DC area is already so expensive. One of Amazon's core principles is to spend as little money as possible. It really wouldn't make any sense for them to go some place with that degree of density and that degree of expense. My guess is middle tier and, specifically, Austin. Atlanta would be less expensive than DC by far, so I'd put that as #2.
10/3/2018 11:58:03 AM
Atlanta is certainly more expensive than RTP.[Edited on October 3, 2018 at 12:04 PM. Reason : Austin is really a hot spot, a tech hub, lots of Chinese and Indian IT workers.]
10/3/2018 12:01:58 PM
10/3/2018 1:58:40 PM
I think the Amazon warehouse in Garner is enough for NC already.
10/3/2018 2:28:39 PM
I spoke with the president of a company who has done a lot of work on the various data centers around the US and he said that HQ2 is going to Atlanta. He said it's purely speculation, but he has pretty inside access. I only asked him about it coming to Raleigh and he said we're too small for what they need infrastructure wise, we didn't talk about other cities. I hope he's wrong and it comes to NC.[Edited on October 3, 2018 at 2:46 PM. Reason : ADG]
10/3/2018 2:45:36 PM
IKEA dropped the expansion plan to Cary already, same reason.
10/3/2018 2:54:20 PM
that's not the same reason for ikea
10/3/2018 2:56:11 PM
not enough data center infrastructure for ikea
10/3/2018 3:28:16 PM
Boston, DC, Atlanta, top 3 seeds. Triangle is out already I think.
10/3/2018 4:29:45 PM
is that based on your ikea knowledge?
10/3/2018 4:37:21 PM
No. I went to city-data forums and people are talking about it. Most of them bet on Atlanta and DC.
10/3/2018 4:42:59 PM
because people in large groups are known to make good decisions.
10/3/2018 4:49:44 PM
I saw people using such "sources" as seeing that Amazon was hiring more people in DC and ATL currently...for jobs that have nothing to do with HQ2. Fairly certain we aren't landing HQ2, but these predictions and such are getting a little pointless and grasping at straws. The favorites were always DC, ATL, Denver and Austin. I'm not sure why people are acting like it's bold to claim the favorites are any combination of those 4. Raleigh and Boston were the early darkhorses that people got excited about.
10/4/2018 9:06:02 AM
I think when people talk about DC, they mean the three spots---Arlington, DC and Montgomery County, the DC metropolitan area.
10/4/2018 3:10:11 PM
All places with Ikeas
10/5/2018 9:32:34 AM
I doubt if it's gonna be DC, as DC has been packed with all different kinds of big projects and it has high population density. They should come down here or to Atlanta, still plenty of spaces for them.Same as Apple.
10/5/2018 9:57:47 AM
DC won't be good for Amazon when the Rooskies finally get the Red October close enough to nuke it.
10/5/2018 11:51:57 AM
Everything in DC has to be something related with politics. That's not the future direction for Amazon for sure.
10/5/2018 1:27:04 PM
my amazon contact says there are speculative plans for a campus at dix park
10/5/2018 2:03:41 PM
There are. The prison gets moved and Amazon park goes in its place. The campus spreads to Dix in this plan and creates a greenway that goes straight through town to Dix/Maywood/Farmer’s Market areas without requiring people to traverse western. This was a city proposed plan but is not officially accepted by Amazon in any capacity, yet.

10/19/2018 9:11:38 AM
Scott Galloway predicted it would be DC area: https://youtu.be/_HyiY_m_YxIEssentially he was arguing the only thing between Besos being a trillionaire was regulation.

it's certainly best for Raleigh for them not to come. While I'd personally benefit from a decent increase in net worth (own two homes downtown) I believe that the quality of life people find appealing would go downhill pretty quickly. Plus, we already have issues with affordable housing for the service industry workers who make downtown operate. HQ2 would make that substantially worse and add to the increasing standstill that is Wade, Capital, Hillsborough, or Morgan street in the evenings. Downtown doesn't have the infrastructure.
10/26/2018 10:13:21 AM
I don't think it will be in downtown, that's almost impossible. It will probably be in Garner, or Apex, somewhere around triangle. But the result won't be released until next year, according to the article.Northern VA won't be a good choice, as anywhere near DC is very expensive for living cost already. Moving Amazon there will make it worse.I bet it's either Atlanta or us.[Edited on October 26, 2018 at 10:34 AM. Reason : spelling]
10/26/2018 10:21:14 AM
articles I've saw, talked about they wanted to be in a metro area, and they wouldn't go into someplace like RTP. I've thought i read somewhere up Capital or between downtown and Dorothea Dix Park would be the preferred location in Raleigh.

That's his ambition to be a trillionaire. But the law won't allow him to do so.
10/26/2018 12:24:14 PM
Oh, they reallllly wanted NC State's land boarding Dix Park. Even had high-level talks with university administration.[Edited on October 26, 2018 at 12:42 PM. Reason : ]
