Might as well get the hype started! http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-college-football-preview-heisman-dark-horses-20180814-story.html

Still pissed about my Daniel Imhoff thread getting locked.
8/31/2018 9:38:48 AM
Finley only had 17 passing TDs last year. He’ll need to have quite a bit more than that, along with us winning like 10 games for him to be in the conversation.
8/31/2018 10:48:21 AM
We would def have to come close to running the table. Winning at Clemson and outplaying Will Grier when WVU comes to town will be two big checkmarks for his campaign. The NFL scouts will be deep for that WVU game so if Finley plays well and his draft stock goes up I think that will get him more in the discussion.
8/31/2018 12:57:25 PM
Yeah. And I know these Heisman threads are just for fun, so I’m not criticizing the thread at all. But as is always the case, we need to be in the top 15-20 at a minimum for one of our players to have a shot. But like you said, plenty of chances to prove it on a national stage this year. It will be interesting to see how he does now that we’ll lean more heavily on the pass game than ever before with him as QB.
8/31/2018 1:23:18 PM
Rivers didn't even get invited to NY his senior year, when he had absolutely ridiculous stats. Finley has 0 chance to win/receive Heisman votes. Here's a quick refresher on how ridiculously good Rivers senior year was:4491 yds (#1 ACC, #2 NCAA)34 TD (#1 ACC, #6 NCAA) also only had 7 INT170.5 QB rating (#1 ACC, #1 NCAA)72% completion rate (#1 ACC, #1 NCAA)9.3 yards per attempt (#1 ACC, #4 NCAA)Those last 2 stats really jump out at you. He was the most accurate QB in the whole country while throwing downfield more than all but 3 other QBs (who all had completion percentages 10+ points less than Rivers.)NC State will never have a Heisman trophy winner unless we win a national championship (LOL) or have some freak running back who runs for like 3000 yards in one season.
8/31/2018 1:29:09 PM
Yeah cause that State team was like 7-5. That was my point. Unless you win 10+ games it doesn’t matter what your stats are.
8/31/2018 2:13:05 PM
And Ryan Finley isn't going to put up numbers like that. It doesn't matter if you win 10 games if you throw for <20 TDs.Also fun reminder, Rivers had 3 different offensive coordinators, this is Finley's 4th year with Drinkwitz as OC.]
8/31/2018 3:54:17 PM
You mean the exact same thing I said earlier?
8/31/2018 5:01:20 PM
8/31/2018 5:47:50 PM
No, because you say that like Finley will actually put up those numbers.
8/31/2018 6:08:52 PM
Finley has a better shot of winning the Heisman than Rowan does of winning an NBA MVP
8/31/2018 6:38:10 PM
8/31/2018 8:04:08 PM
9/1/2018 7:20:03 AM
Whatever, I know what you said
9/1/2018 9:04:55 AM
Lol. It’s there to be read by everybody. I laid out what it would take for Finley to be a Heisman contender without hinting at the likelihood of that happening. What a weird thing to argue.
9/1/2018 12:05:57 PM
I KNOW WHAT YOU SAID THIS SUMMER
9/1/2018 12:36:42 PM
I no longer know what you’re talking about.
9/1/2018 12:37:19 PM
OH YOU KNOW
9/1/2018 12:42:51 PM
9/1/2018 12:45:03 PM
Dude is still staring down his target. SMH
9/1/2018 2:05:45 PM
he should've gotten these bad throws out of the way in the preseason games that don't exist
9/1/2018 2:16:02 PM
Just go ahead and give him the Heisman. He's locked it up.
9/1/2018 2:30:09 PM
Bttt
10/6/2018 1:21:43 PM
^you are the most intellectually dishonest ST poster. Are you just a troll? When Finley lights up the scoreboard you’re nowhere to be found. When he has a bad game or isn’t perfect you pile on. That doesn’t make you insightful, it makes you a dumbass and no one is fooled by your ”hot take”. We just think you’re an idiot with a low football IQ.
10/6/2018 1:30:03 PM
EDIT, wrong thread. Hangover from last night [Edited on October 6, 2018 at 1:38 PM. Reason : ...]
10/6/2018 1:34:03 PM
^^ nah we don't
10/6/2018 1:42:28 PM
Look, I don't think Finley is terrible, but I definitely don't think he's the best QB in the upcoming NFL draft like some people think. He's going to be a terrible bust if he's a first round pick. And the last two games he's had awful first halves. He gets bailed out a ton by the best WR corp I've ever seen at NC State (and it's not even close.)
10/6/2018 1:47:02 PM
10/6/2018 1:49:33 PM
No, I still talk shit about him then
10/6/2018 1:49:58 PM
I guess I just couldn’t care less about draft projections. It has nothing to do with the here and now and his being a qb for NC state. Even as I type this, are you watching the game? He’s good. He’s one of the best/most respected qbs in the acc, we’re 4-0, and staring 5-0 right in the face. The way you go on about him makes it seem like you think he’s terrible.[Edited on October 6, 2018 at 1:50 PM. Reason : ]

I have to wonder how much is scheme.. He almost never looks at more than 1 receiver, and when he does it usually isn't a good play.. The last 5 or 6 passes at least (maybe all of them, I was in the car for a while) he's thrown to his first read
10/6/2018 1:53:30 PM
I am literally at the game right now. And I've seen him throw two awful interceptions. Just like I saw him throw a shit ton of terrible passes last week.[Edited on October 6, 2018 at 1:54 PM. Reason : These wrs would make Daniel Evans look like Aaron Rodgers]
10/6/2018 1:53:41 PM
are you watching the game though, or just t-dubbin'
10/6/2018 1:54:56 PM
Justin who's on your watch list to become your most hated NC State student-athlete next year since Finley will be gone?
10/6/2018 1:55:57 PM
10/6/2018 2:00:30 PM
To be fair, his first read has often been open this game.^^^^and being at the game is basically admitting you’re getting a worse look at each play than everyone watching at home in HD[Edited on October 6, 2018 at 2:10 PM. Reason : ]
10/6/2018 2:07:44 PM
^^^Blake Harris]
10/6/2018 2:21:00 PM
^^ right, which obviously you have to have the arm strength and accuracy to get it there, but thats why I said I'm not sure how much is just the scheme.. Good receivers get open in a scheme made for them to get open, and Finley doesn't have to do a ton..
10/6/2018 2:26:13 PM
Wait is Finely complete garbage or just over-hyped Justin? You're all over the damn place with your saltiness.
10/6/2018 2:41:17 PM
He isn't Marcus Stone bad. But he's definitely overhyped. He is usually pretty good at his pre snap reads, but he stares down his intended target post snap. This leads to some really awful throws when his primary target is double covered. His pre snap reads + really fucking good receivers lead to a high completion percentage, but he's not a guy who is going to find the open man on the fly.
10/6/2018 2:49:50 PM
10/6/2018 4:46:41 PM
10/7/2018 12:41:15 AM
Is he a top-5 QB in State history? Definitely top-10. Assuming we don't have a couple upcoming months of bed shutting.]
10/7/2018 12:51:15 AM
Terrible interception in the red zone that cost us 3 points, but other than that a solid game from Finley.
10/7/2018 7:46:43 AM
Even with the 2 picks, PFF rated him as far and away the best acc qb performance this week. Now the acc is pretty down on qbs right now, but it's still good. That first pick seems like an overconfidence mistake. I never saw a good replay of the 2nd
10/8/2018 4:06:18 PM
2nd pick was pretty bad. Totally didn’t see the defender it appeared.
10/8/2018 4:38:33 PM
10/8/2018 4:51:36 PM
I’m not convinced that Glennon is definitely ahead of him. But maybe that’s recently bias on my part. Glennon obviously never had the weapons Finley has had. And I know it’s not Glennon’s fault...but outside of like 2 games, I don’t really look back on those 2 seasons fondly.
10/8/2018 4:55:43 PM
Justin, do you have any statistical predictions for Finley's rookie season with the Giants next year?
