Yeah JMU is better than many FBS teams too. For comparison, they are definitely better than our Week 2 opponent, Georgia State who is in the Sun Belt (FBS). We should still beat them, of course. We’re better, deeper, and playing at home. They lost their QB, some DL guys, and I think WRs. Their secondary is a strength. They have good RBs. I expect us to win by 2 possessions or so after a close first half. Something like 38-24 wouldn’t surprise me.

Lol, if we only win by 2 possessions I might cry. These guys are FCS. Remember Chuck Amato's last season? We beat the defending and destined-to-repeat FCS champions (App State) by two possessions in the season opener and went 3-9 that year.

This JMU team is better than that App team. I’m not predicting a loss or anything. We should totally win this game. I’ve seen some people say it’s an 11-13 point line, but a lotta Vegas places don’t put out spreads for FCS games, so I’m not sure where that number is coming from. JMU is solid. They’d be a top 75 team in FBS. While that’s not great, they’re way better than recent FBS opponents like ODU and South Alabama.

If I’m making an official prediction, I’ll go with 40-21. I’m just saying, a 13-14 point wouldn’t surprise me.

Anybody who isn't at least a little worried about this game either hasn't been a state fan long or doesn't know much about JMU. They have a 28-2 record the past 2 seasons, and they led the FCS in defense last year. Plus they have a ton of the D1 transfers. I know they are replacing their QB, but they are used to winning up there.

I get it, JMU is a really good FCS team, but I think we're pumping them up WAY too much just because we're scared of "NC State Shit" and coming out flat in our opening game(like we normally do).

JMU is 28-2 the last 2 seasons.
They've played 2 FBS teams in that stretch.
They got pummeled by UNC 2 years ago(that we beat).
They beat a terrible ECU team last year(3-9 and got crushed in a lot of games).
JMU is replacing their QB, statistically their best in history.
One of the guys that is battling for the starting gig was a back up at Pitt that we already beat.
JMU is replacing 3 starting OL.
JMU is replacing 7 starting defensive players.
JMU has a few D1 transfers, we have an entire roster of D1 players.

JMU offensive is a power-running game with the intention of lining up and dominating your DL and running between the tackles.
JMU's defense is a 4-2-5 scheme where they play man-to-man on the outside and task their CBs with shutting down your best WRs.

Their strengths play to our strengths. We have more talent/depth than they do. We have the proven QB. We have the home-field advantage. We play Ga State next week who almost lost to a FCS team last night, so NO way we're overlooking JMU in prep for the game next week. It's the first game of the season, going against a team that went 28-2 over the last 2 years...if we come out flat it's completely on the coaches.

I get it, we have question-marks, but if we lose to JMU it is going to be a really, really bad loss. I expect a close game until halftime but, like the UNC/JMU game 2 years ago, we should dominate the 2nd half with depth.

Again. I’m not saying we’re gonna lose. Just saying this likely won’t be the typical 45-7 pounding of an FCS team like WCU. They were up 21-14 on that UNC team after 1Q. Like you said, they beat an awful ECU team...but they beat em by 20 points. ECU was god awful but an FCS team beating them by 3 TDs ought to tell you they aren’t the typical Wearern carolina FCS.

I don’t think anything I’ve said is really a hot take.

DiNucci was eventually replaced at Pitt but he started vs us and was 19/32 170 yards, 1 TD, 1INT before being benched.

Defender put his helmet on the ball. With a freshman converted from DB carrying the ball. That’s not a dumb play by the RB. That’s proof he probably shouldn’t have been playing and/or a dumb play call. But not a dumb play by the RB.
