What do you guys use? I just heard of Beam, they claim that they will pay 2-4% APY. They are still in launch mode though. https://meetbeam.com/?r=CASH-ryW8IfcTYM

have used Ally for the past many years2-4% is a pretty large range - does anyone on this site keep enough cash on hand for it to matter?

Coastal FCU has 2.25% checking if you do 30 transactions per month. Thats pretty easy for me to achieve. For the more lazy, Coastal MM is 1.25% for no effort.

^^ plenty expect a correction in the market. They have cash

i just keep an amex HYS. Usually decent rates with no need to do anything special (1.45% rn). I keep about 5% cash on hand between my HYS and my checking. If I do sell something and want to sit on the cash for a short bit, I just park it in that account, rather than worrying about opening a new account for a small amount more.[Edited on March 21, 2018 at 10:21 AM. I've recently moved a chunk over to Marcus. Granted it was an easy move since I work @ GS but 1.5% is straightforward and easy. Ydays FOMC hike will likely reflect soon.

^ Yes of course your highness

I just started buying short duration T-bills. Fidelity doesn’t charge any commission on buying those online ($20 if you have them make the trade for you). Beats what I was getting in my money market account and I already had a fidelity brokerage account.

^What's your interest rate?
4/11/2018 1:16:25 PM
On the one I just bought with a maturity date a little over a month away my yield was 1.53%Going to stick with another one month duration after this one so it will mature shortly after the next FOMC meeting then I’ll probably go with three month ones
4/11/2018 3:23:27 PM
^Assuming the 1.53% is the annual return, of which you are getting 1/12th?
4/11/2018 4:07:07 PM
Slightly more since the duration is 36 days but yeah that’s how it works. On if you bought $10K worth you would pay $9,984.7 and get $10,000 at the maturity date for a gain of $15.30
4/11/2018 4:12:53 PM
Vanguard Prime Money Market is up to 1.76% yield. $3,000 minimum. This may be a help:http://www.mymoneyblog.com/best-interest-rates-cash-april-2018.html

You are paying 16 basis points on that fund so the effective yield is going to be lower (1.6%). Unless I’m reading that incorrectly.
4/13/2018 9:06:58 AM
That's correct.
4/15/2018 12:10:51 AM
Where do you guys keep your short term/emergency funds? Will Ally at 1.45%, I'm not sure the other places are worth the risk.
