Anyone playing?

Interesting so far (my first MH game). Definitely feels like some weird cross of Dark Souls and Destiny, to me at least.

I looked up the other threads and decided this is probably one of those games that is amazing for the core fan base, especially if you have 3-4 friends to hunt with but that there was a price of entry for noobs that I wasn't ready to pay.

I just barely played enough Dark Souls to say I understand the premise and I didn't really respond to the "Let's make this game so insanely difficult and esoteric so that when the player naturally figures these things out they will have this huge sense of accomplishment. I mean I get it I just didn't care for it.

Is this any different? Should I give it a chance?

The combat isn't as punishing as DS, but you do need to be more strategic more rather than just hack n' slash away. I guess that's what I meant there.

Friends would definitely help, though the multiplayer interface should make it easy to form PUGs once they hammer out a few technical issues.

I'm a first time player and find it interesting. Could be a good game to pick up for an hour or two, try a few hunts to get mats for gear, and then put it back down. The grind is basically the point.

yeah the combat is a little clunky/DS-esque, but it has gotten better. It's a good franchise and I'd recommend giving it a try if you are into that grindy, get gear type of game.

Ok I tried it and u got me. Now I'm hooked. SnS to start but trying to come into my own with the charge blade.

Charge blade is nice, but I'm finding it's limited range makes it hard to exploit some of the larger monsters weakpoints.
