I was really really really hoping they would leave the arachnid/alien thing with the first set of movies, and do something different and scarier.

Because a space spider really, in the grand scheme of things, isn't all that scary. I'm good with just a demon clown.

I thought it would have been slick to have "granny" drool, say, when sipping from her cup - especially at that moment of her frozen stare at Beverly. It would have invoked the gutter drain scene from the 1st movie when Pennywise was coaxing Georgie closer.
