more like trick or treating is just a scheme pushed by the sugar and pharmaceutical industries to get kids hooked on sugar at a young age.

and since sugar is the most addicting and medically damaging thing you can put in your body, this is a tradition that secures thier profits for the next 8 decades.

[Edited on October 27, 2017 at 12:07 AM. Reason : i wouldn't let my kids participate]

That looks more like generic old white guy mask. Maybe a Jim Boeheim mask.

Do you know what "late stage capitalism" really is, or did you hear this on a podcast and you just think it means "when corporations suck."

Because corporations suck but I'm not sure you've really though about what comes next when "capitalism falls."

Like, Sweden, Germany, Denmark...they're all still welfare capitalist states.

If sugar was truly the most addictive and medically damaging thing you can put in your body, then why are the addicts living for 8 decades?

The correct answer is they are both stupid jokes and only appeal to polarized simpletons. Y'all posting in a troll thread.

Did I fucking say anything about the top analogy?

In any case, there's at least some truth in the top one, and it's less shitty than the bottom one. Trickling down, to the extent that it works, has nearly nothing to do with sharing, and more importantly, no kid reinvests his candy into anything.

Ever heard of DALYs? Just because you are alive, doesn't mean you have a high quality of life. 2/3rd of the country is obese and half the country has a metabolic disease. These are the leading causes of death but also risk factors for all of the other leading causes of death.

I mean, it might be in the sense that overconsumption of sugar probably causes more net harm than overconsumption of anything else. I fully expect that it does by a wide margin.

It's, ahhh, a bit of a leap to go from there to calling sugar the most addictive and damaging thing you can put in your body.

Imagine if our food industry had a fucking opiod arms race, and the whole country was chowing that like you read about every time they ate something.

A leap supported by science
Quote :
"PURPOSE OF REVIEW:
To review research that tests the validity of the analogy between addictive drugs, like cocaine, and hyperpalatable foods, notably those high in added sugar (i.e., sucrose).
RECENT FINDINGS:
Available evidence in humans shows that sugar and sweetness can induce reward and craving that are comparable in magnitude to those induced by addictive drugs. Although this evidence is limited by the inherent difficulty of comparing different types of rewards and psychological experiences in humans, it is nevertheless supported by recent experimental research on sugar and sweet reward in laboratory rats. Overall, this research has revealed that sugar and sweet reward can not only substitute to addictive drugs, like cocaine, but can even be more rewarding and attractive. At the neurobiological level, the neural substrates of sugar and sweet reward appear to be more robust than those of cocaine (i.e., more resistant to functional failures), possibly reflecting past selective evolutionary pressures for seeking and taking foods high in sugar and calories.
SUMMARY:
The biological robustness in the neural substrates of sugar and sweet reward may be sufficient to explain why many people can have difficultly to control the consumption of foods high in sugar when continuously exposed to them.

Two guys go blow by blow, one eating Pixy Sticks, the other doing bumps of cocaine.

Are we really going to wager on who dies first?

If you want, you can have them both use 5g of their substance daily and see who dies first.

Sugar's not healthy but the effects manifest much more slowly. Same with tobacco.

Well no shit. Most toxins are dose-dependent. The facts that the dose tolerable is higher for sugar and that sugar is a chronic toxin don't change how addictive and damaging it is. Thats a distraction from the actual point. We aren't talking about eating one piece of candy. Also, the part about it being readily available during a typical day is all the more reason to be concerned.

Communist countries exploit the 3rd world just like capitalist countries do, which account for the vast majority of those deaths.

That graphic is attributing deaths caused by imperialism to capitalism, when communist countries can be imperialist too.

The point is that people are trying to use the quote to discredit the entire ideology when those deaths are not unique to communism.

You can't have communism surrounded by capitalism. It is impossible because there is an incentive for flight of capital. During any communist revolution, capital flight is likely. It is very difficult to capture the rich before they escape with everyone else's resources when they have capitalist societies to escape to. The West has actively created flight paths during most communist revolutions to encourage resource theft.

Imagine a scenario. Lunch at a camp or conference.

-There are 10 rooms with 10 people each. 100 total people
-There is 1 pizza in each room. 10 slices each. 100 total slices
-Each room can set its own system for distributing pizza

There are a lot of ways to distribute the pizza but people will definitely flock to rooms that have a first come, first serve system with no slice limit. There is only one correct way to allocate the slices.

It is especially difficult if one room decides that each person gets one slice but one person gobbles down five slices during the discussion. Now you have 5 slices left and 9 angry people. 4 of whom have to go to another room to try and find a slice that hasn't been grabbed yet.

Also, If I were you, I'd caution the confidence you have in your knowledge of history...

People will also flee from the rooms that execute anyone that dares to discuss the pizza dilemma. The handicapped and mentally ill in those rooms might be incapable of fleeing, but they'll be summarily executed for being non-producing mouths to feed.

now you are conflating the behaivior of brutal regimes with their choice of economic system. Any economic ideology can be implemented democratically or through totalitarianism. Surely, you can think of non-marxists who killed opposition?

Communism will never come to fruition through a democratic process. There's a reason why all communist regimes through history have been totalitarian in nature.
