My grandfather graduated high school in 1955 and my grandmother is just a couple of years younger. I can't remember what year they got married but they were the right age for it to be a chart topper. They played this kind of music all the time while I was growing up. Well, half the time early blues rock like Fats and half the time Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin lounge singer types.

Grandfather was born in 1937. He was 24 when my dad was born in 1961. My dad was 25 when I was born in 1986. Maybe young by today's standards (I think the average age of first-time parents is close to 30 now), but pretty standard for their own generations. I'm 31 but no kids yet.

My wife and I and my parents danced to it at our wedding earlier this year. My grandparents weren't able to travel to be with us but we went to them a week later and played the video for them, it was quite the sentimental moment.

Yeah it's just weird, because I grew up listening to "oldies" with my parents (both born in 1950, I was born in 85) which is how I know Fats Domino. He definitely wasn't the music of my grandparents.

Side note, there were kids I grew up with whose grandparents were nearly the same age as my parents, because there were multiple generations of kids having kids in high school. Most of them carried on that proud tradition as well.

^^^Having older or younger parents/grandparents also depends on if you're an oldest or youngest child. Of my circle of friends in high school I had the youngest parents, but they were the oldest among parents of my younger sister's friends.

after my grandma died we found her birth certificate was 1917. interesting part was everyone thought it was 1920, it was 1920 on her drivers license. we dont know if grandpa knew. she missed out on 3 years of social security, not that she needed it
