This is insane and it makes me very angry that anyone could do this. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/10/09/how-the-elderly-lose-their-rightsTL;DR - "Guardian" companies can have elderly declared legally incompetent without a shred of evidence, send them off to a facility, and sell of their estate for profit. This happens without even family members (sons or daughters) knowing that it happens.

I just read all of that. Downright appalling, and the higher ups didn't even suffer. Sounds like that Shafer guy moved from exploiting old people to exploiting abused children. So many people had to be complicit in their schemes that it's infuriating.
10/23/2017 12:04:40 PM
pretty sure they would be taking me to jail instead of an old folks home if someone tried some shit like that
10/23/2017 12:41:24 PM
When you're 94, it's hard to be quick on your heels with a 12 gauge. Not to mention, you probably would be confused. I don't care how you think you're gonna be when you're elderly, it isn't going to be like you're 32.
10/23/2017 12:43:31 PM
That's some terrible shit. I wish Rudy would blast Ms Parks with a 12 gauge and then say "Oh, I was just confused in my old age"[Edited on October 23, 2017 at 1:37 PM. Reason : not Ruby]

If you've ever wondered about the privatization of government functions, here's an example.
10/23/2017 6:38:10 PM
more like government overreach being exploited by corrupt individuals.
10/23/2017 8:53:51 PM
In eleusis's world, "corrupt individuals" would not have exploited the elderly in the absence of the government's legal power of guardianship. It is the existence and exercise of this power of the state that engendered evil in the hearts of these people, corrupting them utterly. They would have devoted themselves to selfless acts of charity if not for the siren song of government overreach, which lulled them into chasing cruel opportunity.YOUAREA FUCKINGIDIOT

In FroshKiller's world, it's perfectly acceptable for the government to deem someone mentally incapable due to dementia with no proof whatsoever, grant guardianship to a company rather than next of kin, and then sell off their shit legally. Nope, no failure of the government whatsoever in this case.Froshkiller is proof that some people can actually hear the phrase "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" and be naïve enough to think it's a good thing.[Edited on October 24, 2017 at 12:22 PM. Reason : without the court order in the lady's hands and the threat of police, this never would have happened]
10/24/2017 12:20:59 PM
But why were these people able to get a court order to start with? This is why having a living will and power of attorney and healthcare power of attorney is so important. Many of us will be having to deal with these types of issues in probably 15 years or so.
10/24/2017 12:38:48 PM
I don't know that a will would have helped those people out.
10/24/2017 1:30:03 PM
Well I mentioned a will just as part of elder care paperwork. But wouldn't a healthcare power of attorney be able to make those decisions before it got to the state?
10/24/2017 1:37:28 PM
A power of attorney likely wouldn't have stopped the couple from being hauled off to the old folks home, as that seemed to be done with no research whatsoever. It would have prevented the permanent guardianship boondoggle that happened next though, and would likely have gotten this lady sued into bankruptcy.

I would like to know how April Parks is facing 260+ charges of racketeering and theft, but none of the judges, attorneys, or doctors that were in on it with her are facing charges. Doesn't a racketeering charge imply that there were multiple individuals complicit in the crime?
10/24/2017 2:36:56 PM
Maybe you could do some real research into that mystery if you weren't so fuckin' stupid.
10/24/2017 3:47:47 PM
Damn those privatized courts!!1
10/24/2017 3:49:27 PM
fuckin stupid to see the state take away someone rights and property with no due process at all and then blame a con artist

I mean... She's charged already with over 200 felonies but there must be some way to make her life worse. Fucking piece of shit.[Edited on October 24, 2017 at 6:40 PM. Reason : .]

there are a dozen other complicit judges, court appointed attorneys, and doctors out there named in the article and the arrest warrant in need of a good doxxing.
10/24/2017 8:15:30 PM
I can just hope that there is a special place in hell for people who prey upon children, the elderly, and the mentally ill.
