This guy appears to be a despicable human, but what is almost worse to me is what seems to be the legion of enablers and people willing to cover for him. Even A-listers like Matt Damon had stood their ground for him, at least up until yesterday. So I'm curious, for all of the assistants and executives that he worked with that knew of his behavior but didn't report it, could they be held criminally liable for their behavior? I'm sure they'll claim that they were afraid of workplace retaliation, but still, potentially hundreds of women over the years have been harassed, and it could have been stopped.

yeah but he's jewish so it's all Hitler's fault you insensitive prick.
10/11/2017 10:41:22 AM
Honestly, I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. From what I've heard, the entire entertainment industry operates this way. Female singers can't really get their foot in the door unless they suck dick to work their way up the ladder. Auditions for plays and movies go no where unless actresses are willing to give some Tang to producers. The whole industry is filthy, and everyone knows it.

EMCE hit it on the head. Its well known its just that society has decided to change its values faster than hollywood. 15 years ago, people didn't really care so much about this sort of thing. The children are always victims and I'm not one to blame women but the system was definitely perpetuated by women who voluntarily did this type of thing for personal gain. As you hear in the tape, and Trump's video, these men like Harvey were so used to women letting them do whatever they wanted, that they thought it was normal.[Edited on October 11, 2017 at 12:38 PM. ^ you need to keep my name out ya mouf. To be perfectly clear, I don't cosign some of that digital diarrhea you are spewing. I in no way implied that women brought this on themselves.
10/11/2017 12:42:21 PM
I in no way implied that either because "women" aren't one thing the way you are talking about them. I'm saying that the women who let these guys do whatever they want helped create the culture and those are the same women who enabled, protected, and vouched for these guys for years. The same women who blame victims.
10/11/2017 12:44:42 PM
Women had a clear choice in all of this - play, and have jobs, or report, and be blacklisted from a big part of Hollywood. It isn't up to us to argue which choice is the easiest or the right one to make in their situation. It's awful that they were put in that situation to start with.[Edited on October 11, 2017 at 12:49 PM. Reason : ddd]

Terry Crews admitted he was a victim of sexual harassment in Hollywood in the last year or so. If that shit can happen to him, it sure af can happen to kids or young adults.

yes. the women are to blame here.

My hopes are that she ops for a boring 9-5 desk job that pays well. God forbid she want to head to Hollywood, or get in the entertainment industry.I was just trying to illustrate how women were stuck. I'm sure people are going to come out of the woodwork stating "Why didn't they just go to the police, bla bla bla."
10/11/2017 12:54:20 PM

What about a woman who goes into the interview saying "I'm gonna suck the boss dick to get this job"
10/11/2017 1:02:13 PM
^^I hope Hollywood doesn't make her happy then. But your first statement is silly, she'd be far more likely to get assaulted in the entertainment industry than an engineering or IT job. Or basically just about any other job out there.
10/11/2017 1:04:31 PM
I think our broke ass legal system is probably one of the most significant factors. -the conviction rate, for just about any crime, is exceedingly low for the rich and powerful. It's amazing what an army of $700/hr lawyers can convince 12 dolts on a jury of. Women know this, and they know what an uphill battle even a slam dunk case would be. Not to mention the possibility of reprisal civil suites, defamation suits etc.-DAs, detectives, and judges, on average, give the rich and powerful obscene amounts of deference. Just look at all these affluenza cases.-everyone knows that even a shitty defense team is going to attempt to destroy your reputation, career, life if you testify as a witness. If I'm working in the legal/police profession in any of the jurisdictions where Weinstein committed crimes, ya gotta ask yourself, "why did so many of these women not trust our system?"
10/11/2017 1:05:11 PM
They could still trust the system and lose their credibility in Hollywood, because Weinstein isn't the only one. They were afraid they'd never get work, I'm sure.

10/11/2017 1:27:48 PM
Yeah, his statement true for the first time today but wasn't always like that. Hollywood is late to adjust because a small group of people have all of the power.

10/11/2017 5:11:07 PM
^^ Maybe it's a milder form of learned helplessness? I mean, I could see something like this happening to a woman, and her thinking to herself1) I can't physically stop him from attacking me2) If I don't do what he says, I'll have no career. Ever.3) If I say anything, no one will believe me, and they will assassinate my characterMaybe my best bet is just to keep quiet, not make waves, and hope he never does this again.

Lady in the video was clearly being coerced and abused no debate. but my hypothetical is about women who knowingly let down professional barriers and follow a powerful man (who they are not interested in) up to his bedroom. The man is still wrong but at this point, the woman's role becomes blurry. I'm not defending Weinstein but since we are talking about hollywood rape culture in general now, I want to discuss the underlying causes. Can we distinguish between "the victim was asking for it" and "women who literally asked for it helped create a culture of quid pro quo"I know this is too much nuance for some of you but don't hijack my question by saying it is blaming the victim. I'm trying to make it clear that asking about women who premeditate and use sex to get ahead is not the same thing as blaming women who are coerced and pressured into sex.

10/11/2017 6:44:15 PM
did you mean to say he didn't commit a crime?
10/11/2017 6:57:34 PM
His people seem to be insisting that he never forcibly raped anyone. Like, they've clearly drawn a legal line of things that would be criminal, and they obviously are not going to admit to any of the accusations that include various kinds of rape. But I'm confused because nearly everything else that has been reported is some type of crime: indecent exposure, various degrees of sexual abuse, assault and battery, molestation, harassment, solicitation, etc... I mean, I don't even know what to file this under, but I'm pretty sure it's against the law to pull your dick out in front of an unwilling observer and jerk off in a potted plant. And it's not like he's a kid who once tried to get his girlfriend to touch his penis and profusely apologized when he realized she didn't want to. This dude's been a sexual predator for decades with plenty of wake-up calls over the years and evidently no ability to change. There are no better candidates for prison.(Also, I think it's hilarious his people expect us to believe that the extent of his behavior stopped just before rape...like he's a total pervert with a reputation for rage and no sexual impulse control, but he somehow managed to never once rape anybody. )While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and add that I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he's had people murdered.

Big names so far that have accused: Jolie, Paltrow, McGowan. I wonder how many lesser known actresses he's taken advantage of for small roles that he said would "get their foot in the door." I bet we're talking about hundreds of cases of abuse over the years. And I also thought I heard on the radio today that his legal team he had assembled is falling apart - people bailing on him. I don't see how any reputable lawyer could take his case at this point.Oh and it sounds like Ben Affleck is done too.
10/11/2017 9:51:45 PM
Why is Ben Affleck done? Because he grabbed the One Tree Hill girl's ass? His brother and Joaquin Phoenix almost raped a producer on the movie they were doing and Casey won a fucking Oscar.I'm not saying Ben didn't do something wrong...but basically you have to get to Weinstein level to really get in trouble for Hollywood. I don't think Ben is there.
10/11/2017 9:59:50 PM
Last week? Maybe not, but the fallout from Weinstein will be severe because Hollywood will be trying to put on the facade of "cleaning things up." Yes - the groping incident was one, but McGowan's tweet was pretty bad too. While she didn't provide any proof of their previous conversation, she went on record with the NY Times calling him out as a liar.

I mean, it really isn't all that surprising. Hollywood as always been on the forefront of women's rights, right? In the 30's, 40's and 50's, they were so progressive on women's rights that studios forced their female stars to get abortions, whether they wanted them or not.
