I'll report back from the beta/demo.

Though I'll give Bioware credit for this, they've already put out a notice about how this demo differs from the current version of the game. Plus, it'll be nice to play a beta that isn't just the opening zone of the game.

I'm holding out hope because Andromeda is the only Bioware game that's ever disappointed me.

They absolutely took the combat system from Andromeda and added flight to make this game. Andromeda's combat wasn't bad but the game was so glitched.

The combat was the best part of Andromeda though.

yeah i cant even start a mission without getting the infinite loading screen. have to exit and restart every time. this should definitely be called a beta, not a demo.

other than that, the game is actually more fun than i thought it was gonna be.

Enjoyed actually playing it thoroughly, but there's definitely some bugs to be worked out.

Traversal (flying) is fun as hell. Actually takes a bit to get used to it, especially the ins-and-outs of heat management.

Spent most of my time running the missions and stronghold with a buddy of mine. Quest chain was interesting, and the characters seem pretty well realized compared to Destiny or Division. Didn't dabble much in Freeplay, but plan to give it a shot with the open demo this weekend.

Combat is better than I'd thought. Was going in expecting to feel exactly like Mass Effect, but it's much tighter and more responsive than that, so that was a surprise. Will be interesting to play with builds to work in simpatico with their combo system. Their Primer vs Detonator abilities were not well marked, so that could be optimized.

Ran mostly Colossus as that's usually my playstyle. Definitely a bullet sponge compared to the other Javelins, but playing with the shield was great fun. I was entertained endlessly charging through and bowling over smaller mobs. I'll probably give Interceptor a shot for this weekend (note that your progress will carry over).

No plans to cancel my pre-order. It has a lot of potential, and if nothing else it'll be fun for the grind and social aspects it can bring.

Played for an hour, figured id give it a shot. Still a hard pass. Dont like the menus, dont like the movement, dont like the flying, dont like the enemies. Im sure people love it, but its not my cup of tea.

I am in the same boat. Nowhere near as impressed as I'd hoped I would be. The flying just feels spastic to me.

So got access to the trial (first 10 hours of the campaign) over the weekend and was totally shocked by how different the game felt. It felt more polished, smooth, and hardly noticed any bugs in the first 2 hours I played. I may end up grabbing this game after all. A friend had EA access and the pre-order which apparently gives you the ability to play the first 10 hours early.

You don't need to preorder to get the 10 hour trial, just EA Access.

I'm still getting a lot of bugs FWIW but it's really fun when I can actually play it. two or three crashes, twice the game has dropped all audio in the middle of a mission forcing me to restart the application, and some occasional rubberbanding of enemies.

So. Picked up this game on Friday and played on and off with a buddy of mine over the weekend. I have to say that a lot of the criticisms seems legitimate. The game just kind of feels a little...unfinished? I want to say that's because of pressures from EA, but that might just be my bias against them talking. The game could have used a little more time for polishing.

That said, I really enjoy actually playing it. Traversal is awesome, and I'm kind of spoiled for that going forward now. If I can't jetpack around a map I might not be interested in playing your game.
Combat is still satisfying, especially now that primers and detonators are pretty clearly marked. I main colossus so far and spooling up my lightning coil while flying and strafing mobs with my flamethrower for chain combos is endlessly satisfying.

The story is okay. Not what I generally expect from Bioware, but given the type of game this is supposed to be I think the story is better than other games like it (Destiny, Diablo, Division, etc). It helps that the side characters are well realized, not only by their stories but also the voice acting and facial animations...they're stupid good.

I'm maybe mid way through the campaign at the moment, so I can't speak to the endgame loot grind. But as is there's enough to keep me entertained here for a while. At least until we see what Bioware's post release plans are, and from what they've been teasing they'll be adding to and tweaking this game pretty regularly for the near future.

tl;dr - Good. Not great. If you like loot based games I'd recommend, but it may need a month or two to fine tune some things and hit a stride. The potential is there, hopefully the player base sticks with it.
