BJJ is effective, perhaps just not against 800 pound grizzly bears
5/8/2017 6:12:04 PM

I was just going to put the Dillion Danis pick with the gun, but I couldn't find it without the meek so I gave up.

I'm a pretty big fan of rolling, fwiw.

I'm thinking about starting soon. There is only one smaller BJJ gym where I live and I anticipate possibly moving in the near future so I have not joined. Ideally I would like to do no-gi but I guess it's good either way. How old were you when you begin training BJJ?

I trained casually in my early 20s while in the military, but just got back into seriously training at 34. Im almost 36 now. Its fun, I enjoy it, but my goals are realistic. Im not trying to be a UFC fighter or even the best in my gym, there are much younger guys that have youth on their side. Not that Im old or anything, but it does play a role. I train for fun and to be better than the average person. Im still a white belt with about 1.5 years in, and most of the guys in my gym are blue and purples belts, so I get my ass kicked a lot. Sometimes its frustrating to lose to someone newer who is younger and more athletic, but you need to keep the ego at the door and just enjoy it.I train both gi and nogi. both are fun. Best advice I have is start as early as you can, age wise. dont wait. Not that you cant train in your 30, 40, 50s, but if you can start in the 20s do it[Edited on May 21, 2017 at 12:08 AM. Got my blue belt tonight. 1.5 years of training 2 to 3 days a week for usually 2 hours at a time. I'm 36, feel old but good, wish I started younger.Anyone else train

There is a Muay Thai and boxing gym opening up by my house next month. I may check it out. Depends on cost. The only martial arts I ever trained in was like a month of karate class when I was 10.
9/21/2017 9:33:37 AM
you should, its good stuff. the hardest part is taking that first step and walking into the gym for the first class.
10/16/2017 4:28:46 AM
So, who trains???Who wants to roll???
11/16/2017 3:36:07 AM
I did end up joining the Muay Thai gym. Been good so far. One problem I do have is my arms lose circulation when raised for extended periods so I have to drop them at times to get the blood flowing. Would not be good in an actual fight. Hopefully it gets better.

Nice bro. Muy Thai is legit stuff. The clinch is a brutal position if you know how to work from there. I like to use clinch to set up my take-downs or even a standing guillotine...but you can get some nasty strikes from clinch
