First reports on the IT remake sound promising.http://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3427951/sxsw-first-footage-it-awesome/

Guess I thought that an IT remake would have elicited more interest. Not sure about the new clown look since, after all, the clown mask of IT was intended to be attractive to children. Perhaps the clown mask will morph from a more pleasing visage to the one shown in the trailer?

i am interested in this, but had not heard about it until you posted it
3/17/2017 11:41:01 PM
^^it may have elicited more interest had you named the thread "It Movie Remake" or something similar. Pennywise is also the name of a rock band.

The images for Pennywise came out a few months ago. It looked like a live action version of Syndrome from the Incredibles. I lost interest.

Tim Curry's Pennywise wasn't scary looking, not even that creepy, just offputting and gave you a strange feeling that something was out of place. Then when the monstrous things happened it made it more terrifying, because that could be just any clown. Making him look like a horror film creature from the beginning makes me think that effect will be lost.
3/24/2017 5:55:13 PM
^Yes.

I originally heard that they were doing just the first half, when the main characters were all kids. Then doing the adult stuff as a followup if enough money is made from the first. It's been a while since I've watched the original, but I seem to remember starting with adults and catching up the audience throw a series of flashbacks. Is the framing then out the window?
3/25/2017 1:28:52 AM
I had heard this might be a trilogy? However, I can't find that this is the case anymore, though it could depend on how well this does.

^^^I watched the original back around halloween and you're right, it takes place when they're adults, but maybe half of it or more is flashbacks to when they're kids (and that one done in three parts)
3/29/2017 12:41:04 PM
yea, the adult stuff was what really made it work. like oh yea IT fucked these kids up.

Gotta say, I dig that trailer. Seems pretty true to the book.
3/29/2017 1:47:24 PM
Some parts of the book though, they would absolutely be demented if they included. And I really do hope they break from the book when we find out what Pennywise really is. Because for me, that ending (along with Revival's) was the biggest let-down for any King book I've read, and I'm pretty sure I've read them all.

^ How did they handle that part of the book in the Curry tv version? I can't recall, been a long time since I've seen the tv version.
3/29/2017 3:22:47 PM
I didn't read the book, but I remember a scene from the original that almost hinted at the girl being raped by the clown by taking the image of the guy she wanted to be with. It didn't actually happen, but seemed like it was about to then she snapped back to reality. The trailer does look pretty great, but I've learned not to trust them the last couple of years. I still wish their childhoods were slower reveals, as we got to know each character one at a time in the original movie and how each of their childhood's were ruined. But I am open to seeing the story unfold entirely from the kid's perspectives.

In my opinion, the back-and-forth between the two time frames (together with the farther back histories found in the Interludes) was critical to the story and the tension/horror it evoked. Obviously a wait-and-see, but I believe that any effort to parse the film into separate time-frame intervals would be a significant loss to the story (albeit, internally, the events happened in chronological sequence).[Edited on March 29, 2017 at 5:41 PM. I was getting more excited for this...but then...I found out there's a chance that this is going to become part of a Stephen King connected movieverse which incorporates The Dark Tower and others. The only other Stephen King novel I've read is The Green Mile, so I don't know how much some of the other stories are in fact connected, but apparently the town of Derry does get mentioned a bit. So it could be the connection already existed with other King stories, but now it might be a movie series and I'm not thrilled about that. Just like I loved the new Kong movie, but am not really looking forward to the other monster movies.
4/27/2017 5:52:03 PM
I'm ok with the King multiverse. It isn't something that they are trying to shoe-horn into movies. If you get a chance, I'd read the Dark Tower series, as it connects many of his works together, including Salem's Lot, The Stand, The Talisman, and others.
4/27/2017 9:38:44 PM
The Dark Tower IS The stephen king multiverse; Nearly everything ties back to it.

I think this might be a trilogy? so they may be holding out on that for a whileCan we change this dumb as shit thread name?
7/28/2017 8:10:48 AM
See the convo here for why naming the thread "It" is almost as bad https://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=648906&page=1#16426710
7/28/2017 8:30:05 AM
A trilogy? Probably not. However, I could see an adult Part 2. Which could be interesting, because they've updated this movie to be set in the 80's and the Part 2 could almost be dated to today.
7/31/2017 8:57:16 AM
Why does everything have to be a trilogy? Why can't we have a good story in one long movie, or two movies?
7/31/2017 10:21:22 AM
Because they want that $$$. But that post ^^^^ is the only time I've seen anything mentioning a trilogy for this movie. Obviously if it is successful they will do a part 2 with them as adults, but that should be the end of it.
7/31/2017 10:29:33 AM
They could easily do a connected universe with King's world, if they would play their cards right, but we're already past that since it looks like they've botched the Gunslinger movie.

An extended bit of the Georgie & Pennywise scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjBuTA98OIUThe eye color change from blue to yellow is awesome as is Bill Skalsgard's "shaking" when he says Pennywise, the dancing clown.Discussion: I wonder whether the glimpsed scenes (in other trailers) with Beverly being caught by Pennywise and her being suspended (in the Deadlights?) are an effort to make a stronger parallel with the adult half of the story and Bill's wife Audra? That is, that they've changed the Beverly-as-teen story somewhat in order to make a stronger parallel with Audra's role in the adult-story sequel? Somewhat curious to see what they do with that.

btw, this is a pretty amusing review from an early screening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rb814owfGo&t=370s"I saw the old one (IT, the mftv movie with Tim Currey) over the weekend for the very first time and heard stories about people freaking out, becoming clown phobic; something of that nature over that movie. Well, this (the new one) is not going to give them any help (shadenfreude-like chuckle)."

Read something somewhere where the kids were separated from Skaarsgard while not filming because he was so scary. Not sure if that's legit, but if so, that's pretty awesome/awful.
8/31/2017 1:08:58 PM
This clip (of the Georgie scene) is interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRcDIQ0fXaMSpecifically, I like the way the acting and cinematography seem to suggest that Pennywise's affability is difficult to maintain; that to mask his (her) dominant predatory nature is a struggle at best.
8/31/2017 3:10:20 PM
Just saw something awesome: in the trailer where Georgie hugs Bill for making his boat, just behind (to the left of) Georgie's head, on the wall, is a Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st Ed) Player's Handbook.[Edited on September 6, 2017 at 7:03 PM. Reason : ..]
