Maybe this is too similar to the "Movies that haven't aged well" thread, but has anyone ever watched a movie they watched about 10 years ago or more, and are now like "How the hell did I ever think this was any good?"

I watched several movies recently for the first time in a long time, and I was just not thrilled with either one, and wondered how I thought either of them was entertaining. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Hostel II
SuperBad

SuperBad was still kinda funny, but just not all that good.

Superbad is still a good movie.

I didn't. Bur curiosity got the best of me.

Maybe it's because I have a little girl, but I think it was how the characters constantly talked about women. Yea yea, perpetual pussification of America.

kudos on the homologous thread , I really thought I was in the other thread

anyway superbad was only ok when it came out, I think there is something similar to the position effect where your enjoyment can be greatly influenced by the people you watch it with and perhaps the hype

also can I please just point out

I have never seen that movie, so I know not what you speak, but <3 that is possibly one of the best things ever said in tww. You're a good dad <3

^^The point here is not to justify a particular character or characters' actions in a movie. I'm sure I acted the same as those boys in superbad. The point is to talk about how your feelings toward movies have changed over time.

^I was actually talking about superbad there too. No, if you were talking about Hostel, I mean that's not a movie you even associate with family because it's just so horribly perverse.

I think that movies like Space Jam and Bad Boys definitely deserve to be on this list.

Haven't seen Superbad in years but I will never forget how hilarious I thought the whole McLovin thing was. The guy that played him could be 70 yrs old and still acting and I'd still think of him as McLovin.

^^He was in that Neighbors movie as a frat guy.

This may be anathema to some, and I still like the movie, but when I first watched Tombstone, I thought it was the greatest western ever. Val Kilmer in that role is still one of my favorites. But now when I watch it, I wonder to myself why I thought it was so great back then. In my slightly older age, I tend to prefer (in this same genre) movies like Unforgiven, or movies with a little more theme than just "shoot the obvious bad guys."

Anyone remember Trading Places with Eddie Murphy? I sat down to watch it on netflix after seeing it when I was younger on TV with my family. I don't know if the implied gorilla-rape storyline was on TV and just flew over my head, but I know I completely forgot that Dan Aykroyd put on black makeup and pretended to be Jamaican. That shit would not be made today.

Also, agree with your assessment with SuperBad. That movie was so quotable when it came out. Some of it is still funny but the banter with Michael Cera and Jonah Hill is a bit cringy.

i'm with you. I'm also in the small camp that preferred Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp over Tombstone. That still baffles some of my friends to this day and we argue about at least a few times a year.
