So eliminate the 2pm game Tuesday.

before the Notre Dame game (and after Gott's firing was announced), Gott was shown in the locker room giving the pep talk, and he said something about feeling like a dog that had been run over, and the tire was on top of him squishing him, but he wasn't going to give up, he was going to bite the tire. and he wanted the team to bite the tire. It was kinda weird.

If the standings stay as-is, we'd lose by 30 points to Wake in the first round.

Even if we beat Wake, we'd lose by a buzzer beater to Syracuse in the second round.

If we beat Syracuse, we'd have nothing left in the tank and collapse in the first 5 minutes against Florida State, who would be playing their first game of the tourny while we're playing our 3rd.

Then holy cow, look at that run!!! How heart breaking to make it all the way to the semi-final to get our ass handed to us by Notre Dame.

And then either Louisville, Duke, or UNC will be waiting for us in the final, who collectively averaged a 24.5 point differential over us in 4 games this season (33 if you take out the "Fluke at Duke").

The tire is bound to bite back.

It's weird but strangely makes sense. Duke would have had to play 3 games to win it all anyway, so give them a cupcake and a day off, best incentive to be the regular season champ.

The current 15 team bracket is fucked up. IMO give the 1 seed a bye and otherwise treat it as a standard 4 day 16 team tournament.

Good point. Never thought about it that way. Figured Duke would be pissed about the risk of losing in the first round. Now we are left with the hypothetical of if Clemson won. Would they get a bye?

I went to all the tournaments before expansion and they did this for 3 straight years to add a benefit to the regular season winner. Duke won the regular season each time so they were the only team that benefited as the #1 seed with the extra day of rest.
